So that means it makes no difference whether i turn in my app sooner or later? People keep telling me i should turn it in ASAP tho which is making me confused

@DeeGeeErbear or anyone else:
I have some questions about transferring in the Spring.

I’ll be going into UT Arlington this fall with 27 credit hours from Dual Credit and AP courses. By the time I finish the credit hours earned by finishing my fall classes, will I be able to apply to Engineering or CNS? By the time fall 2014 is over, I’ll have completed Calculus 1, General Chemistry 1 & 2 and other basics such as History and English.

Since I’m a CAP student, do I have the option to apply for both Spring 2015 and Summer/Fall 2015?

Here’s what I’m able to post as of now:
- University of Texas at Arlington
- GPA: N/A
- College of Engineering, CNS
- 1st Choice: ECE
2nd Choice: CS - Essays: N/A
- Extracurriculars:
(High School)- Piano 3 years
- Varsity Tennis 4 years
- NHS
- Library Summer Intern
- 1st and 2nd Place in District Art Meet

(College)
- I’m planning to take an online programming class with python taught by Rice professors. It’ll most likely be introductory material, but it’ll be good to have some experience.
- I might join a club or two, but I’d rather focus on getting my GPA as high as possible.

Thanks in advance!

Guys I’m not taking a biology course but I’m still considered a bio major…under Texas tech. Will trying to transfer into biology at UT hurt me or should I try and transfer into another college/major.

@DeeGeeErbear
Are you sure its best if i retake the CS class I got a B- in to get an A?
What if the admissions commitee perceives me as a sort of grade grubber because I did this? I mean most uni’s wont even let you retake a class you already passed (mine is wierd in that it does). Could it be perceived as a bad thing that I retook a class that I got a B- in just to get an A?

No not at all! If it’s a core class that could raise your transferable GPA, then it shows a positive trend. On the other hand, a B is much better than an F which I think is totally necessary to retake. But always do what you can to have highest GPA possible.

@DeeGeeErbear
Alright thanks haha. This means I’ll have a 3.98 or 3.99 when they get my final transcripts. I’m really scared tho because from what I hear they dont like OOS students

arkarind, I would be willing too

@Hola1357
Cool! Ill message you

1) Southern Methodist Univ
2) 3.24
3) 1st is CNS for Neurosci, 2nd COE for ex sci
4) Confident in my essays
5) 1 rec letter from a partner at work and another from SMU English prof
6) lots of extracurrics, just to name a few: camp counselor working with special ed kids, student council in high school, church clean up crew, and community council in college

Chances? Instead of COE should I put UGS instead to increase my admission chances? Would one more rec letter help me out at all? How can I tell the “quality” of my essays?

@DeeGeeErbear

When you repeat a course, UT Austin Admissions includes both grades in your transfer admission GPA computation, so trying to raise a B- to an A will have negligible affect on your admissibility. They’ll be more impressed if you simply move on to the next course in the CS curriculum.

DonVon, going to be pretty close with that gpa. It is on the low side.

Close but not impossible?

I wouldn’t say impossible, it seems like every transfer thread there is one or two that get through in the 3.2’s. I can’t say the odds are in your favor though.

Instead of COE should I try for UGS to increase chances?

UGS would likely be easier than COE, yes.

What is a good second choice major? UGS or COLA undeclared? Or is there a smarter choice? My first choice is CNS (probably chemistry)

My GPA will be 3.18. I will apply COLA for psychology. I have good essays and a letter of recommendation. Actually I was a CAP student of 2013 fall but I failed a class so I could not get in, but I took summer classes this year to raise my GPA. I have 36 hours now. Is it still possible to make UT?

That’s a pretty low GPA, David.

@davidx1128 If you can work on your GPA and perhaps bring it up to a 3.4 you will have a decent chance. As of now you could still get in but would not be as competitive as other applicants.
