spring admits?

has anyone gotten this? just curious, this is what my d got last year, later in the process. It was a bit of a letdown, she really liked USC but didn't like Spring admit. They were also a little tough to deal with on finaid. So she went to Cal.

For spring admit... what do you do for the Fall semester??? just sit at home and wait for college to start?

omg thats horrible!

I'd say get a job.

I mean I graduated last year in November and I still find that the time until now passed way too fast.

unclesam, you can take some courses at a community college during the fall.

it was horrible..and she likes Cal but I think she would have been happier at USC possibly if she could have been a fall admit

I would totally be down to do that, but I didn't think that would be possible.. cause wouldn't it be basically like enrolling in two different colleges?!

If I get in Spring Admit and I'm able to take community college courses in the fall, I'd definitely do that.

It will be interesting to see how many are offered Spring admit this year. There was a problem last year with an underestimate of the yield, I believe.

This article from 2006 describes some numbers:

[QUOTE]
"We use [spring admission] as a way to help as many students realize their dream of coming to USC," he says. To fill 200 empty slots in the spring, USC accepts 700 incoming freshman to enroll in January. Though they are accepted a semester behind, they must still confirm their acceptance in May along with everyone else.

It's not an option all students are comfortable with, Mr. Thompson admits. Some fear the stigma of delayed enrollment and need reassurance. "We tell them they don't come in with a big 'S' on their foreheads," he says.

700 admits, that is a lot.

I Would Take It! =]

From today's press release:

[QUOTE]
USC undergraduate admissions letters went into the mail today to anxious applicants from around the world and the nation. Only 21 percent of applicants will receive an offer to join the entering class for next fall.

USC received 35,809 applications for 2,600 places in the freshman class, representing an increase of 2,056 applications over the previous year. With this applicant pool, USC’s admission rate has dropped from 24.8 percent in 2007 to 21.0 percent in 2008.

...At 2108, the mean composite SAT score of all admitted applicants is 18 points higher than 2007.

One can see what USC is doing. Note they tout their admission rate for the fall entering class. 700 Spring admits allows them to get the students while not adversely affecting their stats for FALL admission. It isn't specified, but you just know that they don't dilute the mean composite SAT score by including Spring admits. Spring admits likely represent students with lower SAT scores that USC wants, but sweeps under the rug as it were, by admitting in the Spring and thus avoiding lowering its average SAT.

omg i hope i'm a spring admit! othewise there's no hope. 21% is crazy..

what about waitlist?

does USC waitlist?

no
10char

no waitlist??? seriously? crap.

Yeah I got into Cal and rejected from USC, everyone I tell that to says it makes no sense! Frustrating...

wait, did you get an official rejection letter?

I'd love to be a spring admit...I know a ton of people who were spring admits, had their admissions pushed back a year, or simply decided to take years off. They all traveled everywhere and had such a good time they dreaded going back to school. I definitely would have no problem doing that.

Spring Admit would be great. It's like half a gap year with the ability to take classes at community colleges and get some of your requirements out of the way. Also, you could take classes and work, making some extra money. Not too shabby. After this long wait, my son might actually consider this for USC.

so are the letters sent out today only spring admits and regular admits and rejections sent out later, or all of them?

to apes89
did you already get a rejection letter??
or are you just guessing that you got rejected?
