What exactly are spring admissions? And are they offered to international students? If yes, then what is the process for applying? Which colleges do offer spring admissions (from the top colleges in Computer Science/Computer Engineering)?
(Asking this because a friend of mine wants to apply to college in US from India; he has good grades and is a national level swimmer. However he hasn’t given any standardized tests as of now)
That means you would begin college 2nd semester (if on semester system) which is usually sometime in January. Some colleges will offer this option (only) to some applicants who applied for the previous fall. Schools know a certain number of students who start in September will not return for 2nd semester so filling those slots with new starts allows them to keep seats filled. Some schools use a deceptive practice of making some students who want to start in fall wait till spring so they can get the tuition from the student for 4 years without that student’s scores and grades counting against the school when they publish stats for their freshman class. Schools that do that are those that tend to be less than transparent about a lot of things-dishonest about many-they want to rise or maintain their rank on US News lists without actually improving academics or anything else-so they game the lists by doing things like that, among other things that are pedagogically harmful to students. Of course, there are students who apply to schools with the goal of starting college in the spring semester. Some schools allow that while others only have fall admissions.
