Spring/Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

@Sparklekim101 My mistake, mccombsorbust is correct. You have until March 1st to submit your application for Fall 2016.

Ahh ok perfect thank you! @johnnylawson

Hi all - daughter is trying to apply for Fall 2016. She won’t have 30 hours until after spring semester. I’m encouraging her to apply after she finishes winter minimester and has that grade on her transcript (which gives her 15 hours). She wants RTVF, but I know that is a ridiculous long-shot. What other majors do you think would fall along those lines that might be less competitive? Will she be even more at a disadvantage to not have the 30 hours completed until May?

Idk about RTVF but yes I have heard it’s a disadvantage to not have 30 hrs completed bc people who have their 30 hrs completed are considered first and given their decisions first but many people apply without their 30 hours completed so I don’t think it’s a huge problem @rach98n

but just as a note @rach98n the easiest major to transfer into (just that I know of from scouring these forums) is liberal arts

I believe it’s correct that COLA is most likely to accept applicants, but some majors within COLA are more competitive than others.

So she’s interested in RTVF or PR, something along those lines. More technical. I wouldn’t want her to pick a major just to get in to UT. Is there a COLA major that applies to this line of work? Her other option is UNT RTVF which is also a great program.

I could be wrong, but i believe computer science is at the College of Natural Sciences and that’s the second easiest to transfer to. Just have her second choice major be CNS undeclared. @rach98n

@shelbyy611 Computer Science is in CNS, but it is arguably one of the hardest majors to get into at UT, not to mention that they no longer offer admission in the spring semester. CNS as a whole is not that hard to get into though, I’ve seen people with 3.4’s-3.5’s get into chemistry, biology, and mathematics. Undeclared is always a safe choice too.

Thanks all! She’s not interested in CS although her twin is trying to internally transfer to it in the fall. She’s interested in film editing and production on the technical side. Not sure if there’s something that is a good back up to RTVF. I had heard they weren’t going to offer undeclared but it sounds like they did this year?

Hey guys! Been lurking this thread for a while but wanted to post my stats and to also let you guys know if I get in or not. I’m not sure I have an awesome chance, but I have been told by a few alums that I do.

Transferable hours from ACC: 65 at the end of fall semester
GPA: 3.4
ECs: None, but have been working consistently for over 8 years and my resume required for application shows that. I also work for UT currently at an off campus research lab in engineering support.
LOCs: one from my business principles prof. and one from a former manager, but she turned it in on the 3rd after the deadline. However, I’ve heard of them accepting LOCs and transcripts until the 6th, but I’m not 100% sure.

I’m wanting to transfer into COLA for French. I’m currently set to receive 2 associates degrees by the end of next summer from ACC, one in business admin. and French. I might dual bachelor for French and business but I’m undecided because I know McCombs is tough to get into.

As far as French goes, I studied abroad over the summer for a month in France with emphasis on French history, language and integration into the European economy. I made sure to include this on my resume as well. I’ve studied French in high school and have made all A’s and one B in my French courses at ACC. The B was from French 2 whenever it was still a 5 hour course and I made an 88, but still, I hope they don’t hold it against me.

I turned in my application during July after registering for the fall. I know, I’m crazy! However, I have been wanting to be a longhorn for as long as I could remember because my dad got his undergrad from UT in the late 70s, I also included this in my purpose essay. I’ve heard things like that can help.

Hopefully we will begin getting decisions soon, I know that some international students have begun getting theirs late last week!!

I wouldn’t say you’re a shoe in, but I’ve heard of people with 3.3-3.5s getting into COLA as it’s the easier major to get into. The only thing is, you have 65 hours and I read that that is considered “excessive hours” for UT since you have to complete at least 60 at UT for a degree from there @longhornlegacy

@mccombsorbust the transcript they have lists only 59 hours, so I might be okay. Plus, I’m most likely going to eventually dual-bachelor so I’ll definitely exceed that.

My dual-degree will most likely be French/Business or French/Global relations. I have global and international relations chosen as my second choice. I

COLA is not a major, but a school. Each major within the school will have differing levels of competition. With that said, if I had to guess, I’d think that French wouldn’t be the most competitive major in the school and should be easier to be accepted to.

While having over 60 credit hours is considered to be excessive, there isn’t any language on UT’s website saying that this will hurt your chances of admission. Do understand however, that if you exceed the minimum hours for your bachelors degree by a certain amount, you will be penalized with a higher tuition rate.

@johnnylawson - Good to know, I knew that you can get loan forgiveness revoked for not finishing on time but not about the higher rate. Thanks.

Hey guys! This may be a long shot but I am a current UT student who is needing her SMART housing lease taken over. I am not sure when admission decisions come out but if you go to any Austin college/university and have the federal pell grant please pm me as I need my lease take over from Jan. 2016-July 31 2016 thanks!

Does anyone know when the scholarship application will open up for us? I’ve read that it will be early November, but an exact date would be great.

How does UT look at transfer applicants who have already transferred before? I may transfer to another school for spring sem, so that would put me at one school for fall sem and another one for spring… Not sure if that’s a red flag or not…

I would be transferring to St. Edwards if I do decide to go somewhere else for spring

Does anybody know when the first round of admissions decisions will be coming out?
