Hey guys, I’m currently a student at HCC. I was simply wondering what would be a good gpa to aim for when I apply to UT. I would apply for Sociology. I understand a 4.0 would obviously be the best bet but what gpa could give me a good chance of being accepted as a sociology major?

@AlejandroY Honestly, anything above 3.5 should give you a pretty good shot.

It’s funny that everyday I check mystatus knowing that decisions won’t be for a while longer but I can’t help myself. This is going to be the death of me having to wait.

does anyone know the typical or lowest gpa to get into cola??

I an currently a freshman at another college & got a 3.6 my first semester & am shooting for a 4.0 This semester. I applied with 34 credit hours (from my first semester & dual credit courses in high school) however I did pretty poorly in some of my dual credit courses & avegaged a 2.8 for my gpa in those courses. I applied thinking that admissions would consider my college gpa as a 3.6 since my dual credit courses only counted as pass or fail credit & did not weigh into my gpa at my current college. but would they really consider it as a 3.2?? I’m applying for COLA & initially thought I had a good shot with a 3.6 but now I’m not so sure.

I thought dual credit does go into your gpa? Mine did

@BladesofGlory those universities dont have film schools. what major are you applying for there?

Anyone seeing any activity on their status? My transcripts were reviewed, I know that much. On the Financial Aid tab, when I click on the scholarship form, it shows how many credits transferred over. All of mine transferred, WOOHOO! (minus my math classes; they are all pre-reqs on my way to Calculus). This is great news since I’m out of state
Anyone else have something change? Anyone in review? Mine still says complete-on time. Booo.

@hookemlonghorns I have seen people accepted into COLA with a 3.0-3.2… STELLAR essays, which include why the GPA, can trump a lower GPA.

@Newsie2015 They have digital communication so if I don’t get in I will work on that and possibly PR as well. Than try to transfer one more time. If not I will try Stephen F Austin which has a very good film program.

Will y’all chance me?
Freshman at ACC
Applied to COLA- Urban Studies
2nd choice: COLA undeclared
40 hours; 3.51 GPA
3 letters of recommendation from my boss, a professor, and my high school debate coach who I did volunteer work for.
Essays are pretty good.
I have a paid internship in my field of study, some volunteer work, lots of high school debate and speech.
Dual credit in high school is what brought my gpa down.

Thanks guys:)
