@nahenry1 The “late March thing” refers to a comment posted yesterday by Clintonwk. In summary, if you have more than 30 hours to transfer, then notifications can come anytime from late March to mid April…
Okay, good to know my “complete/on time” message disappearing is normal. If you guys don’t mind, if it does change, let us know!
I’m not sure how accurate that info is, but I do remember reading it somewhere. Also if you look at past threads, those with 30 or more seem to always start hearing back once the calendar hits April.
Complete/on time in green also went away on right of screen for both husband and I on mystatus. Just says semester and majors. Thought I’d chime in
Mine changed almost a week ago. I thought it was a normal thing.
DD’s status still says “complete pending spring grades”. She won’t have 30 hours until after spring semester. Wish they would give a contingency answer based on fall grades and work in progress,but I guess she won’t hear until June.
I just saw on the orientation Facebook page, as of march 2nd, all decisions for freshman were in. SO… that’s good news for us transfers, right? lol They should be reviewing us soon, if not already.
Awesome! Thanks for that - trying to dig through this thread would have been insane
@nahenry1 No problem. Such a nervous wreck of here! Trying to find all the info I can get. My husband and I both applied and are not just moving to Austin for school, but moving permanently. So all bets are on UT Austin! Haha
I’ve been reading other previous transfer threads for past fall semesters, and I’d like to redact my previous statement about late March. It seems the earliest is usually mid-April, and that’s only a few of the colleges. I’d say point your expectations realistically towards early May. I’m not sure where I read late March, but I’m not really seeing anything else to support that claim.
@britni12 My fiance has lived in Austin since we started dating a little over 2 years ago; I’ve lived in Houston. I’m hoping for UT for convenience sake (and obviously the Engineering program is very good) but I already got accepted to Colorado School of Mines and it fits all the selection criteria I have for a school. The sooner the better.
Best of luck to you and your husband!
Austin is a great city! It’s one of those few cities that actually has a personality all its own - I liken it to New Orleans b/c that’s where I grew up. Y’all will love it whether you get accepted or not!
On the scholarship tab, it shows that I have 0 credit hours, and 0.00 gpa? Should I be concerned? My transcripts have been reviewed, and I am really confused as to why it shows me at 0 credits. Is there a possibility that it is still being processed? My last transcript was in on Monday.
Yeah @y0o0o0 I have a problem in the scholarships as well. My grade level is freshman but I am a sopohmore? I tried contacting the admissions office yesterday but no luck.
@nahenry1
Thank you! We are so excited! We are looking in the Round Rock area, that isn’t too far from campus is it?
@Clintonwk Thanks for the sanity check! Just got to be patient… 8-|

Round Rock is pretty far from campus. Unless you need to be close to Round Rock for another reason I would say be closer to campus or at least on a shuttle route. I have lived in Round Rock for about 20 years. My son will start at UT Austin in the fall. He will most likely live in a campus dorm. My nephew started grad school at UT last year and he and his wife opted to rent an apartment walking distance to campus. Depending on when you drive, I would say Round Rock could be a 30 to 90 minute drive to campus. We drove to UT last Saturday and there was little traffic so it was a breeze. A few weeks ago I had to drop my daughter’s science project off in the downtown area and I left my house around 3:00 and got caught in traffic and construction and didn’t get home until around 5:30.You can take the city bus from the Round Rock area. Some families we know opt to have their kids live at home and take a city bus to campus so it is doable.
@parentof3kids
The reason we are looking at Round Rock is because we are buying a home. We aren’t moving to Austin just for school. My husband and I, and his parents, are all moving to Austin. So, we were looking for a nice, safe area, with affordable, nice homes. If Round Rock is too far, do you have any suggestions of nice areas close enough to campus? I heard east Austin is not the nicest area…? We heard Pflugerville is nice.
@britni12 as @parentof3kids said, it’s definitely a hike. Especially if you have to fight traffic. Housing in the Austin area is insane if you’re looking to buy. We looked in Pflugerville before I lost my job - it’s developing quickly and the prices were still manageable when we were looking (about 6 months ago). I don’t know about the traffic on the south side of the city, but there are some affordable places at a comparable distance in that direction (Kyle & Buda I think). The big thing is you want to find a way to avoid 35 at all costs. @parentof3kids seems to have more experience than I - I am in and out every other weekend, so I don’t have a whole lot of downtown experience.
I don’t know what your price range is, but it may be worth looking at a townhome or condo closer to the city - that drive from the suburbs in to campus will wear on you quickly from what I hear. I have an aunt who makes the drive from Round Rock to the south side of the city - near West Lake - every day, so I’ll ask what her commute looks like to give you an idea.
East Austin is where a LOT of gentrification is being done - lots of good places to eat, but the housing isn’t 100% established yet. It used to be really bad from what I hear and from what I remember from my nights on 6th St. We just had some friends buy a brand new place that is beautiful in “East Riverside” but within a mile you get to old run down places that look condemned.
Last thing - just because I randomly remembered - we got really close to buying a place around Walter E Long park. It’s on the east side near the 130 Express Toll Road. I remember the commute being much better than Pflugerville and Round Rock and the prices were still within my price range (not a lot of stuff was in my price range). It wasn’t great but it was a cheaper neighborhood - not a lot of nearby amenities, built in the 2005ish timeframe, near a big park where I had done some triathlons, and there was a lot of development nearby.
@nahenry1 It looks like Pflugerville is off of the 130, is that an easier commute than the 35? Like I said before, we are not just moving for school, so a town/home or condo would not work. There are four of us, and many dogs lol and also we aren’t looking to downgrade. I would rather not be near east Austin, we are looking to start a family in the near future as well, so are also needing a nicer community for that. I appreciate all your help, thank you
Side note: we are from Phoenix, so traffic is definitely not new for us. I have heard a lot about Austin traffic, but I can’t imagine it being any worse than the I10 here or I17 haha
Austin is consistently ranked as having the 2nd worst traffic in the US, behind only LA. So, yes - it is almost certainly worse than anything you have seen in Phoenix
