Spring/Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

Regarding the disappearing “Complete/On Time” line in Mystatus, when did you guys apply? I had everything I needed submitted by January 13. If we’re all grouped in the same time frame, then we might actually be going into review!

I submitted my application in December, but my transcripts and essays were sent in closer to the deadline.

Quite a pricey area but there is new development in the Mueller area where the old airport was. http://www.muelleraustin.com/ Also I don’t know anything about the area but friends from San Antonio bought their kids a house on Berryline Cove, zip code 78724 when they were students at UT. I have never been to the house but it is East of I 35 and must be a manageable commute. I think the price for this new 3 bedroom house was close to what an old 1 bedroom condo walking distance from campus would cost. Friends who used to live in our neighborhood in Round Rock moved to the Heights at Loma Vista, zip code 78749 so that the wife could have a shorter commute to her Central Austin area job. Their kids go to private school. The Mueller neighborhood is in Austin ISD but many of the families we know move to be within the district to take advantage of the highly ranked Liberal Arts and Science Academy magnet high school. My first house that we rent out is in the 78728 zip code in the Wells Branch neighborhood. One of our tenants about 12 years ago was a UT graduate student so I guess the commute wasn’t that terrible. The tenants a year ago had a niece live with them a short while who was a UT student. They ended up purchasing a house from Georgetown which is north of Round Rock so that commute must be terrible.

If I get in I plan on going back and forth from San Antonio at least for the fall semester. So I feel your pain.

@Clintonwk My point was that standstill traffic will not be anything new to me as it would be for someone coming from a smaller city. I used to drive 50-60 minutes, 25 miles, one way to work during rush hour.

@Strelka I applied on February 27th, my “complete” line disappeared yesterday, maybe earlier and just didn’t notice. We are not in the same time frame of submitting

@parentof3kids Thank you for the info!

Hello, I was a transfer applicant last year for the Fall of 2015, i applied from UTSA and got in, if anyone has any questions about the process or chancing or orientation or etc. Feel free to ask lol I’m on spring break so ill have time to reply

@MyLonghorn awesome that you jumped in saw your posts from last years thread.

@MyLonghorn Did you have to wait until spring grades posted to get your decision? I seem to remember that my son who transferred from utsa didn’t but I could be wrong.

Texas A&M transfers are beginning to hear back.

@BladesofGlory lol ya,I was quite active in last years thread, and @rach98n i did have to wait but that was because i had less than 30 hours in residence at UTSA, i found out that i got in on June 12th, and spring grades got mailed i think may 12th or so

@MyLonghorn what is your major at UT?

@PenaDelia im ECE, but i had many friends that transferred to UT for all sorts of majors so i can give your rough estimates of what they had also

@britni12 No worries! In that case, Round Rock or Pflugerville are good spots. I love Round Rock - really good for families. I’m not sure about Pflugerville as far as communities go. But I’m sure there are some good ones closer to Austin as well - but will likely be more expensive. Arboretum is a good area to look around as well - it’s closer to downtown and nice area. Just so you know, my fiance has lived in Cedar Park and now lives on the border of Round Rock and Austin; it takes us about 20-25 minutes to get downtown from her apartment (near the intersection of 45 toll road and Hwy 1 & I-35).

130 is easier commute-wise. It’s a toll road with a speed limit of 80 and its a decent distance east of downtown, so kind of like a beltway or loop for cities that actually have infrastructure plans.

A note on traffic, because I only have second hand information to share: I hear its absolutely stand-still from just north of 183 all the way through 71 going N-S. I’m used to Houston traffic that is crazy packed but still moves because there are 4-6 lanes on I-10 throughout the city; Austin is 3-4 lanes the length of I35. We just went to brunch around 10 today near the university and once we got to the split in 35 (there’s an elevated half and a lower half - weird I know) we were going ~35-40 to our exit. That’s at non-peak hours on a Friday. I still need to get in touch with my aunt to get her input so I can share some first hand knowledge.

Sorry, I keep referencing these roads like you know them, I figure you’ll look at the map and get an idea of what I’m talking about.

@parentof3kids My fiance LOOOOOVES that area

@PenaDelia i don’t want to break your hopes, but i don’t want to lie to you either, your chances aren’t the best… my roommate last year got rejected initially but then a week later got in to Mech E as a transfer like originally he got into his second option but then a week later they changed it for him, but he had a 3.87. But that doesn’t mean your not going to get in, you definitely have a more stacked resume compared to him so your chances still seem decent. Imo kill it this semester, send your spring transcripts in because Engineering doesn’t release till at least June 10th week or so… and you should still have a good chance Good luck!

@PenaDelia but pls have a backup, don’t go in 100% or bust … i feel like too many people do that and then they get stuck in a worse position then they deserve to be if they don’t get in. Your GPA is still good so you should still have many options. So have a backup
