Spring/Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

My buddy is trying to transfer in and received notification that a decision will be made once UT receives his final transcript (this semester). Is this a good sign or is there something else he could do to tip the odds in his favor?

It likely means he isn’t over 30 hours and will not get a decision until June. I don’t think it is a good sign.

Oh dang

This has been discussed previously on this thread. I think each school usually holds a number of spots for <30 hour transfers, so the colleges can wait until final spring transcripts are sent before deciding. But I think someone said that with the more competitive schools, there usually aren’t many spots left after they make their decisions on the >30 hour transfers.

I noticed another change on MyStatus. My application is still under review, but a financial aid tab appeared, and when I click on it, it says that a package will be offered upon official acceptance to the university. What does this mean and does anyone else have this listed on theirs?

Where does it say your application is under review in MyStatus? Also do you know what day it changed into review? and what is the major you are applying for?

My daughter had a phone meeting with the asst dean of Communications late last year. She specifically asked if her chances were hurt by not having 30 hours until the end of spring semester and she was told No. Hope that is true.

@2016falltransfer It doesn’t say in review, which is why this is puzzling. I’m applying for BFA Theatre Studies.

@cis4763 Neither does mine, but the complete/on time in green has been gone for about a week. I wonder if that means we are transitioning into the review process or if we are already in it? I also wonder if they are working on our applications this week because I know UT is in their spring break right now.

Mine doesn’t say in review yet; I am not thinking anything negative about it. I am an over 30 hours OOS transfer to CNS or COLA. Like someone previously said, it is Spring Break right now, so that may have something to do with it. I also have not heard of any transfer students saying in review yet… no worries haha Also, from reading in various places throughout the web, getting a late answer is actually better than being declined early… just means you are competitive. Not saying that is 100% true, but it would make sense

To answer some earlier questions regarding transfer credits…
Once you complete and submit the scholarship app, your credits and GPA are no longer viewable. You can only view what UT has calculated for you BEFORE you complete the scholarship app. I waited to complete the app until I could see the gpa they had for me. Hope that helps.

@2016falltransfer On the admissions tab, where it says, “we have everything we need to COMPLETE your app”… it will say something along the lines of “we have everything to REVIEW your app”. Not sure if that is 100% correct as I saw someone say it on here somewhere haha

@britni12 Does completing the scholarship app have anything to do with acceptance?

@2016falltransfer I can’t tell you that with certainty, however, it does say that it is not reviewed unless you are accepted, I believe. I wish though! lol I had a good essay in there haha

@britni12 I understand. I guess I should fill it out then this weekend. The University of Texas Admissions process has presented itself to be very frustrating for me lol. There are so many unknowns and guessing in my opinion. You seem to be in limbo for quite awhile.

Based on previous years, sit tight for at least another month, around April 15 at the earliest. There lies the problem.

I applied to 7 schools for the 2016 summer as a transfer. I’ve heard from the other 6 weeks ago. There is a lot to do such as housing, moving, advising, etc. I can’t wait a month or more for a “maybe”. I’ve spent nearly my whole life in Texas and live in the Houston area, but I’ll be going to Ohio State. There are other schools out there offering an equal or better education than UT-Austin. These other schools have quick responses, made me feel wanted and had great communication therefore are getting my business.

@inkcrayon Certainly - there are schools that offer equal or better education than UT; but, for those of us in Texas, UT is the best option to avoid the ridiculous out of state tuition prices. Congrats on Ohio State!

Thanks. It should be fun, just as big as UT and great for my major.

I’m 3 hours from Austin and want to go there. My sister went to UT and we’re Longhorn fans except for my dad who went to OU. However, classes start May/June, and a month of time or more is too valuable. If I was applying for the fall, I can forgive it.

I don’t understand why UT-Austin makes people wait this long. I’ve seen people from California and Virginia in this thread waiting. They need to know. I applied to six other schools, and the general waiting time that I experienced was 2 weeks after the application is complete and transcripts are received.

@FeynmanRules A friend of mine spoke with an office of admissions rep that came to lonestar. She said that they do this for those under a certain amount of credit hours because they haven’t established a solid track record of success. A 3.8 with 25 credit hours doesn’t say as much about the viability of an applicant as a 3.8 with 40 credit hours. I was told that if you’re over 30 hours and get accepted, they will never look at you current semester grades.

On the scholarship page, my calculated GPA is 0.00. However, my hours are shown. Should I call them?
