Spring Open Campus

i registered for the overnight and some tours, but now i see more activities that i want to attend...do i have to call the admissions office and tell them i'm planning on going to them or can i just go when i get there?

You can go to all the activities when you get here :)

weeeeeeeeeeeee I’m so excited for SOC! Do you know when they tell overnighters who they’re dorming with?

I think they give you a name pretty much when you arrive (I’m really casting back here to my own SOC, so take this with a grain of salt). I know that around 4:30-5 pm they gather all the SOC guests up, divide them into groups based on dorm, and lead them off to the appropriate dorm to be collected by their hostesses. So by about 5 or 5:15 you should be in the capable hands of a (hopefully) lovely Wellesley woman. I know this for a fact because I’ve been one of the students charged with rounding up the prospies and bringing them to the dorm. You’ll probably have at least one other prospie overnighting with you and your hostess. Have fun!

i got an email that was supposed to be sent to the student hosting me…but all i found out is that her name is jane

they usually tell you when you register on site

so there are usually two prospies to one host?

Yeah a lot of the time there are two (or more, occasionally) prospies to a host. When you sign up to host you say how many people you are willing to host and as you may imagine it is a bit of a challenge to find hosts for everybody, so I think most people end up hosting the maximum number of people they put down. When I came for SOC there was another prospective student also assigned to my host. I hosted my first year and I actually had 3 prospective students for SOC (I was living alone in a large double, so there was plenty of room for the three).

Current students can request how many prospective students they want to host. Depending on the size of your room and what time you have to give to your prospies, one may host 1 to 3 or 4 prospective students. I haven’t heard of anyone hosting more than 4… though I guess I could do more if you all wanted to squeeze in my room :D

SOC is awesome. Go if you can.

Yes. You can sign up for the shuttle that goes directly from Logan Airport to Wellesley (it costs but I forget how much). There’s also a few other modes of transportation you can take:

-Logan Express Shuttle to Framingham + taxi from Framingham to Wellesley
-the T: silver line from Logan to South Station, then commuter rail from south station to wellesley square (campus is down the street from the station)
-a taxi: that’s super expensive though unless you split with other people coming to campus

details all online at the spring open campus website

Hey, is it bad if my host never contacted me? I got that accidental email that was supposed to be to the hosts saying to make sure they contacted the people they’re hosting by friday, but mine never emailed me. Is that bad? haha

I haven’t received anything at all – not even the accidental email. So far, I am clueless about my host. Should I be worried? : (

Nope! You don’t find out who your hostess is until you arrive. Don’t worry – everything is ready for you all :)

Having hostesses contact their hostees is a new system, so some/most people won’t do it. There can be flight delays, cancellations, etc so some people may be switched around at the last minute…

Oh okay  I got the accidental e-mail as well but no e-mail from my hostess. I’m SO excited.

I just wanted to say welcome to all the prospies coming to campus today and tomorrow! I hope you enjoy your time here. :)

Don’t feel bad if the hostesses haven’t emailed you, some of us haven’t been able to receive your email addresses since scheduling has been so hectic! You will definitely still have a place to stay :)
