SSAT January 4th

So I thought I would make this thread for everyone taking the SSAT tomorrow. We can all chat to get rid of any stress or some tips that can help us for tomorrow. So, hows all the studying going for all of you?

Just been doing essays. Haven’t done more than 9 hours of prep for the January one.

I spent the earlier days of this week studying and haven’t done any prep in the past few days. I’m doing both essays and prep today.

same! Ive been kinda doing prep but I think ill do fine tomorrow

I studied roots and suffixes, and never got around to prefixes. I’m hoping the school will still be open despite today’s snow!

I took mine in December and am retaking it tomorrow. I suck at tests like this anyways, so I know I’ll do not as great. My December scores were average I guess, not great though. I studied some prefixes, and some Greek and Latin roots (I am almost fluent in Greek since I am Greek and I took Latin for a course last year). The thing that is scaring me the most is the writing sample. I re read mine from December and it sucked, which is bad considering I expressed a passion for writing. So. I’m freaked out. And I’m also scared because I am taking it at the school I go to now so I’m scared there will be someone there that I know. So, yup :)

SSAT.org website has school changes/closings and weather banner.
Check it in the morning before you head out.
Hope you are not affected by snow though.

Good luck to all who are testing today!

There was a set of twins who were taking it for the fifth time.

hahaha there was this girl who I’m not really friends with and someone’s phone wasn’t turned off so it started ringing in the middle of the writing sample. And it was at my current school so I knew the proctor.

What did you guys think of it. I thought it was easier than last month.

needtoboard: agreed! I thought the math was a LOT easier.

Yes the math and the verbal!

Verbal I dont even know what I was doing, Math it had a lot of trick questions that I was able to solve, and Reading was really easy

Yessssss! There were so many trick questions in math! I found reading easy because the poem was easy and there were no long passages. They were also almost all informational passages which I am better at answering questions to.

Im really worried about my verbal, to be honest, I guessed 90% of them. But I think I did AMAZING in reading and math. Verbal is just my weak point. If you don’t mind me asking needtoboard, what did you do to become so good at verbal?

I knew verbal was my weak point before the first time I took and that was basically all I studied. I scored high in verbal last month but because of that I did not do too well in the other two. This time around I studied equally as hard. Plus, it depends on the words. Most of the words I already knew and the others I could figure out due to similarities in French and roots. For analogies, I make a logical sentence with both words and then substitute. Its as easy as that. Many questions in verbal were also repeats from prep books.

I thought that the math and verbal were much easier from when I took it in November. The reading passages weren’t as long as before which helped a lot with time constraints.

I noticed that too; the readings were much shorter, which I think is sort of a stress reliever since you notice that they are short. I knew most of the words on the first two pages for Verbal, then I guessed a couple, omitted two I think. But the synonyms I felt like either the word was easy or hard, no in between. The analogies, I thought, we’re a lot easier since most of the vocabulary I knew, or I could eliminate multiple. To be honest I’m most worried about the math because I suck at math overall.

I agree, there were some trick questions in the math section, I re-read the questions before getting started and then before I filled in my answer. For the Verbal, I just took the words into consideration and thought of the relationship carefully, because there are answers that could be right, but not as profound as the others.

But compared to the December Test, I bet my scores were a lot higher on this one.

@ccnaf14 what were your scores last time?
