Hi,
I have two questions. I did the SSAT, and got 87% on the first and 84% on the second. One the first test, I got 87 Verbal, 81 Reading, 77 Math. On the second, I got 86 Verbal, 58 Reading, 90 Math. Since I got 90 on the second math, but a lower 58 on reading, should I submit both to the schools or just the first one?
I’m applying as a repeat for Grade 9. I’m applying to the competitive US boarding schools. If I am a repeat, does this mean my scores will be looked at as higher percentiles?
Thank you.
It depends on your grades at school. If they’re all in the A range, you only need to get an 80+. I would recommend submitting the better overall percentile. But that’s me. If your applying to a STEM school however submit the higher math one. STEM School examples: Roxbury Latin, Phillips Exeter, etc.
I’m also applying for grade 9.
Your first scores are closer together, so I would submit them. However, if you are repeating, schools might look at you more favorably as they might think you are very dedicated to repeating admission.
Thank you very much CommunityMember.
Schools will specifically state, do not send multiple SSAT’s. Pick one and sent it. One hint is take the one with the overall highest average among the 4 sections.
I’m actually surpised how much score score deviated between exams - it should not that much.
Sent the highest score. At an interview you can bring a copy and just state, by the way .my scores varied and I did get higher on another date in this section.
The SSAT is only one of several parts of the process. Your 87% and 84% is not too bad. baording school review . co m has the ave SSAt score for incoming 9th graders and if I recall even the elite schools (taft, choate, etc) have 85% ave.
I personally would only send the first one. I do not see any advantage in sending in The second that has a score with Reading in the 58th percentile.
Just to clarify because there’s some mis information.
Many schools super score. Meaning you can send them all your scores and they will consider the top scores from your sections. Most do not state to “pick one and send it.”
Almost every kid I know has had huge score swings from one test to the next so to say they should not is completely false. My own kids had score shifts much larger than the range predicted by the ssat.
If you are wondering about what to send. Please cal the AO who interviewed you and ask. You can ask about the low score and will it look bad etc. they will give you much better advice than this board.
Okay thank you very much.
