I’m applying for several boarding schools in multiple ranges of acceptance rates. Schools such as PEA, Andover, Groton, Hotchkiss and Deerfield is on my list as well as Thatcher, Darrow for a “safety school”. I took the SSATs and got 80 percentile on the scaled 8th grade female. I didn’t attend middle school in the United States ( I moved to Korea before started 6th grade) so I believe that the SSATs are the only way I can accurately measure my academics. I have read that 80 percentile is pretty much rock bottom for the first four schools I have mentioned above ( I consider them a “far reach” ). My initial goal was 90-95 percentile average. What textbooks / resources should I consider using to get an 90-95 percentile for the November and December SSATs? What additional “safety schools” should I add to my list?
IT really depends on you. While the SSAT isn’t the critical factor, these schools have averages which tend to be higher than your score.
Work hard to study and have another list with scores firmly in your range. For every student ( even those with 99% scores), they should have school that they like and a few which are “easier” to get into.
your SSAT isn’t everything the schools consider but it is still important. You can get the ssat.org practice material. What are your weakest points? I can tell you more if i know which section you struggle the most with. if it is fine with you could you share your scores?
I struggled the most on the reading portion. Should I send the whole report?
for reading you should try harder reading articles like maybe the newspaper or a classic
what was the score and what school are you applying to
