still waiting here

Still waiting...I'm not expecting a decision until after SATIIs next week. I fedexed the application on Wednesday.

What do you mean? ^^ The application was due a long time ago...

Well, I emailed Dickinson and they said there were still spots available. And the deadline was "April 15. After that point, we will accept applications on a space-available basis."

thanks, everybody :)

my guess is that this year many people did not confirm that they are going by april 24, and many resigned their acceptances...

but that's only a wild guess, so don't trust me :)

I certainly hope so lol.

Hriundeli, I do believe that is indeed the case.

I wanted to buy some time to think over my acceptance because quite frankly, a binding contract is too extreme. I did accept my spot however, and I'm hoping to see ya'll in New Mexico June 18th! I think many people felt pressure over this contract thing, and decided not to accept the offer of admission.

This is pretty crazy: Stay in Georgia for an extended month, Fly home to Canada from ARML on June 5th, spend about a week in Canada, and then fly to New Mexico a week later. My flight formation is pretty cool; it's like a triangle pattern.

Oh yeah...2 weeks after SSP ends, school starts. So reverse the triangle formation there.

gxing and other Alternates, did you guys even email Mr. Bowdon expressing interest in SSP? I think that's how Hriundeli got accepted, since Bowdon realized that he is very interested about the program. Bowdon likes passion and genuine interest. Infact, when I asked for an extension on my decision deadline, Bowdon questioned my excitement. It was kinda like, "woah" because I wasn't not excited for SSP! Contract thing again...

Yes, as with college admissions waitlists, don't not do anything when you're on waitlists.

ihateCA, if you just sent your application this Wednesday, I seriously doubt you will get in. The admissions deadline was over a month ago, March 31st to be exact. Plus, there are people on the waitlist and it's not fair to them because they expressed interest in the first place (by doing the application on time) whereas with you, you seem to be opportunistic towards SSP. That's how I view super late applications anyway. Also, I think Dickinson was referring to Alternates.

Alright, someone got that SSP list of names that someone else started earlier in this thread?

Alright game plan, what are ya'll going to do when you get to the airport and campus? We gotta start off big guys...

I did send R Bowdon a followup email expressing my interest after the alternate list email. I'm just really anxious because a lot of other things depend on this decision - I hope I receive word soon!

Yeah me too, I sent Bowdon a followup right after as well, but then I didn't contact him later. Maybe I should send another one... actually I'll do it right now lol

Oh and thanks for the suggestion Pham!

Pham, it IS a good idea
i don't know how much did the email help with the decision, but i hope it did.
though when i received an email from him (the next day), he said that there were "several ahead of me"

but anyway..

ow, and what do you mean by

?

like pranks or something more intereting? evil grin

Heh when I emailed him he said I had a "50/50 chance", so I guess that's not really good... but maybe... you never know :D

...he never replied to my email. :(

only after one's death he can say about someone with confedence: "he never did..."

you seem to be opportunistic towards SSP
[/quote]

Tell me I'm opportunistic when I finished my application in the span of 4 days (when others had months) and spent $20 on FedEx to make sure it gets there on Wednesday. I also cared enough to email them to check if they had any spots, and kept in constant communication with them. Additionally, I had to have my teachers write me recommendations in the span of TWO DAYS.

Furthermore what part of "space-available basis" don't you understand? I asked them, and they said they had spots. There was no mention of alternates whatsoever.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. However, early application mid-April is recommend.

This is from Dickinson JMPham. If you're going to call me opportunistic, do your research first. I'm wrong too. Anyways, since that's what they said, the deadline is whenever they fill up all the spots in all programs, whether that be August 8th or July 2nd.

hmm.....are we talking about the same things?

pardon my ignorance, but the only caltech(and etc.)-run summer science program i know of has a director by the name of Richard Bowdon.

and i've never heard of Dickinson before

who is he, anyway?

aye who is this dickinson

this is not a college SSP or summer studies program, this is the SUMMER SCIENCE PROGRAM for ASTRONOMY ETC

yea please refrain from posting here if you want to talk about college summer school programs

ihateCA, clearly we're talking about two different things. SSP's deadline was a long time ago, and "early application" is definitely not mid-April. Additionally, SSP's spots have theoretically, been filled up. However, admissions is waiting for acceptances of offers and working with people on the alternate lists.

Yeah...I'm talking about the Summer Science Program at New Mexico Tech and Happy Valley School. I'm not sure what you're talking about...the Secondary School Program maybe? Our SSP can't possibly fill up all spots by July 2nd...because that's like the 2nd week of the program.

And yes, SSP's director is Richard Bowdon. I've never heard of this Dickinson character before.

Yeah...maybe we should put ice in the showers or something...give everyone a pleasant welcome surprise I ono. Maybe a super-soaker/water balloon marathon? That's what my school did. Maybe you guys have better ideas. Let's not have the first day be "routine" :D

Ok...wrong SSP. I thought you meant Summer School Program...whatever. Pardon me for the MASS confusion. I HATE science so I wouldn't apply anyways.
