SSP Acceptance??

I hate you.

Just kidding.

O well. I guess I have to turn to my other plans for this summer...

Hi,

Here is a status report on SSP 2006 admissions. We have offered admission to 24 girls and 48 boys. 68 of them have confirmed their enrollment so far. Two girls and two boys have not yet responded. There are four girls and 13 boys still on the Alternate List, so your chances for admission are not very high at this point -- especially for the boys.

I know the Alternate List is not a very comfortable place to be, and I appreciate your patience. I will call or email you if a spot opens for you, but meanwhile I suggest you make other summer plans.

Cheers,
Richard Bowdon, Executive Director
Summer Science Program

Well, there's still a slim chance, but I'm moving ahead with my other plans. Thanks everyone for their support and good luck to those still awaiting a decision!

Wow...I don't have much encouragement to give. Those statistics look extreme quite frankly.

Assuming that 4 of those kids don't reply, SSP will probably accept 2 girls and 2 guys or 1 girl and 3 guys. Nonetheless, it's always good if you're a girl...

Glad you applied though. Hope for luck to follow through, and keep expressing interest in your emails.

too many boys

we need more girls so we can have more fun and play in the sun

:-)

hmm gxing-- I got the exact same email lol

the probability of a boy getting in (2/13) is 15%....

i concur :)

though the ratio is still higher than at caltech.....i don't like it :)
neither i like the last 3 points of Code of Conduct ;)

and i am also not sure i would be able to "play in the sun" with you guys (and girls)
My mom told me to wear this costume made of 3-inch thick layer of lead.....b/c of Trinity Site....:(

jk :)

PS to the last post:

I wonder how the girls are split though...it wouldn't be that bad if all 24 of them went to Socorro, and Ojai would have all 36 boys evil grin

Oh man chicks...sweet...

Two of God's greatest inventions: Hockey, and Women.

chauvinist pigs!

jk

SUCOROW: 24 girls, 12 guys. dystopia.

I'd rather say Utopia
sigh
:)

"Two of God's greatest inventions: Hockey, and Women."

Dayum right!

GO OILERS GO... 1 down, 3 more to go :P

"Dayum right!

GO OILERS GO... 1 down, 3 more to go :P"

Oh man did you see that? Red Wings being up 2-0 after two periods had me thinking "Oh crap...this is over." But oh no, Oilers come back to score FOUR in the third period.

Boo...Anaheim...

Did anyone take any AP's lately? how were they? (especially calc)

I bombed Calc. Does anyone know the procedure for withholding scores after you get them? I don't want to cancel all of them, only Calc.

Calc BC was by far the most gruesome test i have ever taken in my high school career. no joke. The free response killed me, seriously, I have never studied so hard for something and failed so miserably. I mean usually i just my performance by how much strenous effort I put into it. and I DEFINETLY spent every waking moment doing calc Bc second semester. but i guess it's more of the fact that I independent studied it. idk.

really? i thought the bc exam was relatively easy, but that might be because i totally bombed the statistics yesterday. stat was extremely difficult, so maybe the calc seeemed easy in comparison? hm, anyway, the number six for stat (the 25% of free reponse number six) was totally, extremely, difficult. chyah. but for the calc, except for the first calculator one (ah, i hated the calculator one!) everything was do-able, i thought. but don't trust me, im prolly just a little high.

whoooo. four (five) more weeks till ssp!

OMG oh REALLY? haha then we're complete opposites. I felt rather confident about stat yesturday. number six wasn't too bad I just used the formula to find chi stat and then did x^2 cdf on my calc and found my p-value. The only thing I forgot was the assumptions for a chisquared test. darn. thats probably a couple of significant points off.

Wow...did CB give you guys the bomb this year on Calc BC because they realized everyone was getting 5's? :(

I took Calc BC last year, and although I left the test with confidence, I can tell you that you won't need a whole lot to get a 5. I'd say get about 65%-70% of the questions, and you'll be good. I think BC has an extremely generous curve, with about 40% of students getting a 5 (ridiculous I know).

yeah, BC is pretty easy. I only started to study it about a month before the test, got a 5 on it. I think the curve is generous, as well.

i thought BC was not that bad...

our class never did polar, parametric, or taylor polynomials

traffic flow ... wow what an interesting topic
