SSP Acceptance??

Hi,

You have been chosen for admission to the 48th annual Summer Science Program. Congratulations!

I'm sure you and your parents have many questions -- please hold them for now. Within a few days I will send you a complete set of enrollment documents, including the SSP Student Handbook with info on what to bring and how to get to campus. After you have reviewed those documents, feel free to email me with any questions.

Cheers,
Richard Bowdon, Executive Director
Summer Science Program

lol that was the first one from about a week ago. then the second just said that u have one week to response within a receipt of this letter?? which i dont kno if that means after receiving hte stuff in the mail or 7days from the email. i still havene't received anything in the mail yet.

The Admissions Committee has accepted your application to the 48th annual Summer Science Program. Congratulations! You have been assigned to the Ojai, California campus. Your Arrival Day will be Sunday, June 25, and Departure Day will be Saturday, August 5.

We received applications from qualified students around the world, allowing us to select only the most outstanding for the SSP Class of 2006. You will find that the opportunity to do an astronomical research project, in the company of other bright, interesting young scientists, will make SSP an unforgettable and exhilarating experience.

I have enclosed the SSP Student Handbook, containing a description of the daily routine, Code of Honor and Code of Conduct, instructions about what to bring, travel instructions, maps, etc. Please read it carefully and bring it with you to campus.

To accept our offer and confirm your enrollment, within 7 days of your receipt of this letter you will need to 1) tell us by email or phone that you do plan to enroll, and 2) send all of the following to us by mail (from U.S. only), email of scanned documents, or courier service:

If you cannot meet this deadline for some reason, or if you have any other questions, please contact me immediately by phone, fax, or email. If you choose not to enroll in SSP, you must let me know as soon as possible so that we can offer admission to a student from the Alternate List. Send the Travel Questionnaire either with the other forms, or as soon as your travel plans are set.

Again, our warmest congratulations. We hope that you will join us for a fascinating, challenging, and richly rewarding six weeks.

Best regards,

Richard D. Bowdon SSP '74, Executive Director

wow, no one in california yet?? hey naansian or any other acceptees did u guys receive anything regarding the financial aid yet? or did anyone email bowdon about an extension, b/c i reallllyyy need to wait until like april 1st until all the other notifcations come out for other programs, lol what should i do??!!

No I didnt receive my packet and handbook and whatnot yet. Only the acceptance email. I guess he should grant an extension if like 10+ people email him about it.

how do you know if nobody from California has been accepted thus far?

actually, that is my guess as to why some of us have not heard from SSP yet. Since everyone that has posted thus far has been assigned to Soccoro, and have had variations, ie, waitlisted or accepted. Its my theory that they might have seperated the applications into two piles: 1 for california, the other for new mexico, and as of the moment they are just notyfing the new mexico people.

Heh, or I could be wrong and I am just making up crazy theories to tell myself for the sake of hope ^_^

edit- I reviewed the thread, and saw that some one did actually get assigned to ojai, the tally is

Soccoro - 3 people
Ojai - 1 person

never mind for that theory!

How long does it usually take for the application to get to north carolina from new jersey?

Unfortunately thats not an exact science.

If I were you I would go with the overnight shipping, if you are pressed for time. Its worth it, considering the magnitude of getting an application on time

Actually I think it is quite fair for SSP to be a junior-oriented program.

Since RSI admits so few applicants, there would have to be a "buffer" program offered to students who are also motivated and qualified but just lack that extra hook to get into RSI.

There are plenty of good programs worth exploring for sophomores, like Mathcamp, PROMYS, SUMAC (though they are all math programs).

By regular mail, it'll take no more than two business days.

hey everyone! haha i probably would've been part of the larger part of the 900 people if i hadn't read that post :)

hm.. that's sorta wierd; i got deferred and was emailed the handbook in the same mail that deferred me XD
so what're they doing by sending the handbook to the waiting-list people and not the accepted people?

"though they are all math programs"--^

I believe you answered your own question.

Well there must be regional science programs out there...it's just I've been always more math-oriented so I only paid attention to the math ones.

I still have not gotten my response yet. Is the official response given by March 24th?

And- Is there chance that I would recieve an acceptance notice that late?

^^sry, i dk.
geez this kinda sucks, i just learned that i only got partial financial aid, less than what i hoped for and what my parents are really willing to pay. By the way guys its 7 days from the mailed package, so i think it should sufficiently cover the april 1st deadline for RSI and whatnot.

I'm pretty sure they've emailed handbook to the acceptences, too.
Or, they'll get it by regular mail.

What's the point of handbook that we got?...Well, I think it's just to make us feel a bit better that we "almost" made it, and if it weren't for the "huge number of very gifted applicants", we would have been accepted "for sure".....lol...it's not even funny, I feel so rejected :)

buuuuuuump

I was actually wondering if anyone has gotten rejected yet. Cuz only things I have heard from you guys is deffered, accceptence and wait listed.

darkly maybe deferral and wait listing are their cruel terms for "rejection"

deferral is a cruel term for we will accept you next year

did u apply sophomore year and get deferred, naansian?
