SSP Acceptance??

hey, Hriundeli, are you a sophomore or junior?

yes I was deferred as a sophomore last year.

are all the acceptances already taken up? could someone still get in who applied tomorrow or would they just be waitlisted?

I'm pretty sure the most qualified ones in the March pool would still be accepted, though probably at a lower acceptance rate.

OMG!!!!!!!

I just got a letter from SSP, and they have given me:

Future acceptence!

For a few sophomores, they ensure a spot in the program for next year!

I gotta say, that is awesome, since it ensures I'll have a fantastic thing to do in the summer of my junior year, in case I don't get into RSI (hahah which is practically expected, whats the acceptence rate? like 2%?)

MAN! what an awesome turn out

SSP 2007!

Congrats Nato!
see, told ya-dont lose your hopes ;)

Aquilastor, yeah im a junior :(

Nato... that is how I'm feeling right now. I am still waiting for both SSP's handbook and RSI letter.

CTY's Imagine magazine did an article on SSP for the October 2005 edition

This was how I was feeling for TASP (my first choice) but I stopped feeling anything after I got rejected...no hopes in any of the other programs I applied too. i mean...tasp got my hopes up and everything and boom! rejection. sigh hopefully, RSI/SSP won't focus on the essays so much, since that's where i got rejected for tasp. shrugs

Anyhoos, SSP seems pretty cool but like a lot of the people here, I have pending RSI results and a some other programs still to come, so I'm kinda unsure. I applied for full financial aid (lol), so we'll see how that works out...won't we?

Either way the results come, I'm going to be doing something awesome this summer. (because there's this program that I made earlier that pays me $1000 for doing research..hellz yeah) I just want the results now, though.

TASP is humanities

RSI SSP is science

only steven jay gould could work with both

i doubt one can straddle two boats in a river

i got into a program that pays me $1500 for biomedical research, but i chose SSP even though i have to pay full tuition of $3300 because SSP is far more prestigious

Not only prestige, but SSP is also a fantastic experience! The people you meet there (my bro went, and I met some fo his friends) are awesome, and it is just a really fun experience.

I think you forget that even such a wonderful program as SSP may be very boring and tiresome for one who doesn't have any interest in astronomy whatsoever.

Plus, i think it is easier to to become Intel, Siemens, etc. finalists with biomed research (of course it MUST be good, but still :) )

But i would still chose SSP, even if they'd pay me 10000 bucks for some research, b/c i'm in love with astronomy :D

i agree with u. personally i'd rather take the biomed research with the stipend. hey pianist was it becuase the biomedical research program was a local program so it's not that prestigious?

correct, einnoc. and SSP is a rare experience, a once in a lifetime deal, whereas biomedical research, or research of any kind, always awaits you in the laboratory, or any laboratory.

Sent in my application! Does anyone know the acceptance rate for the late deadline?

Just to bump this thread.

Im coming as well to Socorro for SSP. I hope to see you guys there!

Petter, are you who i think you are?

Ahoy SSP hopefuls; I'm a proud member of SSP Socorro late shift 04; if any of you have any questions and don't feel like dredging the old thread to find contacts, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, or direct you to some of my fellows who could.

SSP is amazing.

:D

Hey ketchup,

What's the acceptance rate for the late deadline? And also, how long after I send in my application will I get the confirmation email?

Thanks!

KetchupBoy, do you know if people on the deferred list ever get accepted?
:)
