haha that's true, I wouldn't mind visiting caltech and the beach... but still I prefer to do lap swims... but I used to live in California, it's a great place... I've never been to New Mexico, so I'm looking forward to that...

Hey Hriundeli - are you a former SSPer or were you accepted for SSP '06?

lol, im not a former SSPer, rather a former SSP reject :)

As, for SSP '06... i was waitlisted, so now im waiting for the real rejection letter (not the polite one, like waitlist :) )

Oh man, keep your hopes up, you never know!

hey I think they extended the deadlines to the 31st or something... so they might be reconsidering the waitlisted people and at the same time waiting for others to get their application in...

hey just wondering HOW nice they were, did anyone get full financial aid or VERYY generous as in $3000ish.

i have to pay $100 for deposit i think and its paid back when i show up. so it basically full financial aid for me.

hey yeah, if you guys have any questions about ssp, I and a few of my fellow ssp'ers from last year can answer questions or whatever you need
(i went to socorro, btw)

I got switched over to Ojai cuz I'm international and it'd be more convenient for me if I didn't have to transfer flights.

Either way, I'm still trying to convince my parents, who said that they wouldn't let me go unless I get 2300 on the June SAT, but we'll see.

Could someone knowledgeable detail exactly how prestigious this program is? If I get in, I will be at conflict with a few other things.

the prestige is that its been going on since 1959 and every accepted student gets a $2000 scholarship from corporations, alumni, etc., making the cost only $3300 for SIX weeks--they also give generous financial aid. but my parents can pay for me so I guess thats a good and bad thing?

there are 72 students total accepted

RSI surely recognizes SSP

In addition, Caltech, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, UCLA, Stanford and JPL all help keep it going, and the most accepted schools of alumni are all quite prestigious as well

But in any case. . . . I don't think a decision like this should be made based on how you think other people will see it; you should do whatever you think will be the best for you, not what you think others view as "most prestigious". Something that makes you a better person makes you a better person regardless of prestige, something that is prestigious but drudgery is still drudgery.

Thanks guys...this question isn't really for me though, it's for my typical asian parents who are still skeptical over the entire thing. They want me to go to China for the summer, and unless I have a good reason not to, I have no choice. :(

lol
i think getting permision from my parents is waaaaay harder than being accepted (in case they will grant it to me)

hey gxing, just tell your parents its prestigious and tell them that a lot of the alumni get into Harvard, MIT, Stanford, and Caltech and they definately let you go! And plus its true, just show them your acceptance package. It works on my parents...

We'll see what happens. I didn't get it yet...lol.

soo..im just wondering, anybody here rejected from RSI??
lol got my thin white rejection letter today.

aye (10 characters)
