SSU Wine Business Strategies vs. CSUMB Agribusiness vs. General Business at an Agricultural school

My daughter (high school sophomore) is interested in pursuing a business degree with a possible emphasis related to agriculture, most likely within the wine industry. Does anyone have any insights into the specific programs at SSU and CSUMB? Either would seem to fit the bill. Obviously, SSU has it in the title, but CSUMB is located in a prime wine agricultural area, as well.

Additionally, is there any real advantage to either program or would pursuing a business degree at an Ag school like CP SLO or Fresno State provide just as many opportunities?

All the schools you list are very different in every way. School size, selectivity, ambiance of the surrounding community.

SLO is excellent but, really selective so, it may rule itself out. Fresno is a big school with big time D1 sports, as I recall, has a viticulture major but, it’s in Fresno, which turns a lot of people off.

I’d ad Chico, they have a strong Ag and a strong Biz program. Also worth exploring, Davis which has Viticulture and Ag/econ and CPP, which has a strong Ag dept with an up and coming Biz program.

I’d suggest you tour each of the schools listed above and see what she thinks of each. Take the official organized tour, rather than just walking the campus. While you are there, talk to some students and ask about their experience. My guess is, she will quickly love or hate Fresno and Monterrey… the others will fall in-between.

Enjoy your tours.

Thanks, @NCalRent. We have toured most of these schools with her older brother. She has a definite preference for CSUMB and SSU over the bigger schools. She’s only a sophomore and changes her thoughts about majors once a week (which is fine). However, since she wants a small school, choosing the right major is more of a necessity since there are usually fewer option when trying to switch. Which is why I like “medium” sized school like many that you mentioned. More options, but not too big to manage.
