Patsmom-
Keep an eye on the SJC website. There should be a movie coming where graduates of the program talk about what they've done since college.

sjmom--

Are you an SJC grad? It that what the sj in your username refers to?

Not a grad, but have a son at the Annapolis campus.

sj - does he row/ do crew? If so, might have seen/talked to him just last weekend!

patsmom,

I had a talk last night with a parent whose daughter visited St. John's about four years ago. He was impressed by the great books curriculum, but said the campus was quite run-down. He liked the tour guide, a student who had her act totally together, but he said the admissions office personnel were completely unwelcoming, even cold to them. Anyone else have those impressions?

Crash--yes he does row. Did you do a tour last weekend?

I always suggest that people not pay too much attention to the admissions department.... once you are enrolled you won't have any contact with them at all. What is important is the professors, students, interactions, opportunities, courses, etc.

sj The Johnnies took on the Annapolis Rowing Club

I usually come down to watch those races but couldn't make it this year. My son says that's the most fun event of the whole rowing season.

Patsmom-
More St. John's movies are up.

sjmom-

Thanks for the heads up. But I don't see any new ones. I see 5 movies listed, all of which I already saw. Are there more than that? I'm looking at this page:

They're all great, by the way!

Wow! You saw them ahead of me. They really capture what the school's about, I think.

Patsmom, my brother was/is a Johnnie. He loved St. John's Annapolis, did a year in Santa Fe, loved that too, and retains many friends from his undergrad years.

At the time the school's rep was that Johnnies basically got their pick of grad schools. This was a few years ago, but I believe the reputation still holds.

My brother went on to Harvard's JFK School of Gov't, then NYU Law, and immediately got hired by one of the most prestigious law firms in the country. His career has him traveling all over the world, and he currently lives in Hong Kong and does very well as a corporate lawyer.

Johnnies, despite the tiny, close character of the community, are not at all insular. There is a great international feeling there. My brother felt right at home, despite that he graduated (valedictorian) from an obscure parochial school in the Midwest.

I am hoping my second son will go to St. John's. My older son is primarily interested in the hard sciences, and would not be a good fit, but his brother would be.

Patsmom, I wish him the best of luck with any path he takes. I can reassure you that St. John's is a very special place (and grad schools know it).

AnnudduhMom-
Thank you for another post that sets my mind at ease. We are very much looking forward to our visit in April.

The more I hear about SJU, the more I like!
