Stamford Campus

I had never considered applying to UCONN as most kids from my state (Connecticut) tend to go there, and I'd much rather enjoy being in a city. But I recently discovered that UCONN has a Stamford, CT campus, which has sparked my interest and I was wondering what it's like? Is it still a big party scene like I've heard about the Storrs campus? Because I am highly against drinking and doing drugs. I don't want to attend a campus that has boring surroundings so everyone just drinks/parties a lot (I live in CT currently, and my town is just like that because this tends to be a dull state lol). Is it much smaller? Thanks guys!

No matter where you attend school, UConn or elsewhere, you can always choose not to participate in certain activities or lifestyles, just as you can choose TO participate in the same. Something to think about as you explore college options. I would also challenge you in your thinking that a place with “boring surroundings” (UConn-Storrs, specifically) would host a higher rate of drug and alcohol use than a “city school.” Check out the different locations, and see what you think. Or, check out the arrest statistics of each location. That will provide you with some statistical evidence, should you wish to identify it.

If you live in Connecticut, I would suggest visiting the Stamford campus. Any descriptions anyone gives on here are going to be limited. “Experiencing” the campus is going to help you the most.

In the meantime, I’m sure the regional campus site will be able to provide you with some information. But, again, the best thing to do would be to visit.

Good luck!

I know that any campus has partying, but I am well aware of the tendency for the rich kids here to do drugs and drink alcohol because this town in CT (that I live in) is dull. They’ve said it themselves. I have lived in this town, in this state for 17 years. I think I have a good grasp on the atmosphere by now.

Anyways, pertaining to UCONN, on Students Review people had confirmed that the Storrs campus had a feel similar to the one I experience in my suburb/town, because according to them, there wasn’t much to do there and there are animals out there (which gives me a rural/farm impression).

And I disagree. I am asking from the perspective of a student at that school. Experiencing the campus itself or checking out the site will not allow me to figure out if it’s more of a party school. Can anyone who is actually a student comment on the Stamford campus’ vibe?

I don’t mean to insult you or your views, I’m just simply suggesting that any information on the “vibes” of a campus you get from anyone else is, naturally, biased. Listening to what people have heard from other people who have heard from a current student is going to be distorted.

If you don’t get any answers on this site, I would suggest contacting one of the major student organizations on that campus (perhaps a student government?) and just talking on the phone with a student from there. This way, you can understand better who that student is, and therefore have a more informed opinion about their views and where they are coming from.

Anyway, good luck.

You should come to Storrs campus…hands down. You do not have to party if you do not want too. There are other alternatives you can partake in. It’s not that serious.
