standard meal plan vs premium?

Which should I go with?

How is the food at UC Berk (ill be in unit 3) ?

Is it more economical to buy at restuarants than to do the premium?

Tell me about the campus eating and which I should go with.

thnx

umm… go with standard, you can always add on.
you will be using lots of meal points cause… bear market is right below you too.

There are so many good and affordable restaurants around the campus so that premium is definitely unnecessary. Food at Cafe 3 is fine. It is closed throughout the weekends including Friday, but the food is great! You really don’t have to go for premium unless you are planning to swipe people in or eat every single meal from the dining commons.

I’m in Unit 3 too! : ] I had food at crossroads when I went to OHP and it was alright. It wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t phenomenal either. I liked their brunch better because they had fresh fruits like oranges and then I also had so of their pizza and lasagna. It’s a little bland so I’d probably eat out more or go to Clark Kerr. or maybe just get things from Bear Market.

I got the standard plan.

Go with standard. Most people I know don’t run out of points, and if they do, they always know someone else that has extra points to swipe them in. And like UpMagic says, there are many good restaurants around that you’ll probably be eating at occasionally with friends and such.

If I signed up for Premium and find that I have excess meal points, can I change my meal plan midway through the year?

^ No.

10char

Stick with standard. Bear Market is a huge ripoff ($6 for a box of cereal you can get at Safeway for $2-4) so you can save a lot more going to grocery stores.

A lot of people have trouble even finishing their standard meal plans because the restaurants around Berkeley are much better than the DCs.

I got premium because I figured $350 is worth the extra 4-6 meals per week for a whole year

I got standard this past year and ended first semester with 88 extra meal points (a max of 100 carry over to the next semester). And I finished the year with 16 extra meal points. Standard worked just fine.

Although maybe that’s because I didn’t really like Cafe 3 dinners…I usually got something at Bear Market or from a restaurant. Bear Market is way overpriced…but meal points =/= money on a 1 to 1 basis.

Is it more economically sound to eat out than to use points?

it’s not really going to make a difference economically if you use all the points, but you’re probably going to end up wasting some… i lived in unit 3 for 2 years and had extra mealpoints every semester on the standard plan.

would you really want to eat in the same dining hall every single meal when you’re passing by 50 restaurants on your way back from class? probably not lol.

do berkeley meals assist with freshmen 15? or detract?

I also meant like does it cost more to eat out than to use points? I’d think yea
