Could someone please recommend a meal plan? What do most first-years end up getting?

standard; premium is a lot, you get 500 more meal points I think...and unless you're a really big eater I think you could hold back on spending the $350 :)

Yea.. I think standard is enough.. Have you visited the campus?? there are so many eateries around the campus!! OMG! i wish there was a choice with no meal plan lol.

is the premium worth it money wise? eg. pts to $$$ ratio?

with standard it's about 2 meals a day. which is pretty good. a lot of people have leftovers even with a standard meal plan. just stay with standard, unless you plan to eat campus food all the time!

Leftist is right (!) about the points. BUT get the std. You are NOT going to spend every day, twice a day, getting dc food. Unless you're a glutton for punishment! If you find you're running out of points, you can always add $$ and/or points to your Cal1 Card. Adding $$ instead of points is good because you can use it for laundry and food, like at the market at Unit 3 or Golden Bear cafe. Much more useful for me, anyway.

I'm not sure if you were trying to say it doesn't since this sentence is a little ambiguous, but just to be clear, GBC takes meal points.

GBC takes BOTH meal points and $$. That's what I meant. So it doesn't matter if you only have $$ left on your card instead of points, GBC will feed you!

How many meals does standard get you a day?

1250 points a semester. Dinner and lunch average out to 7.25 meal points. 172 meals a semester. That's 86 days worth of lunch and dinner.

You'll probably be on campus for around that long each semester.

i heard with left over meal points, you can take home food or something at the end of the semester?
thats what my student tour guide said when i did the OSP program.

^ I heard 100 leftover points are carried over to the next semester and any points over 100 are discarded. I suppose you could buy food with the leftover points and take it home though.

hmm ok, buying food. i suppose thats what she meant!

hey! how many of you berkeley transfers aren't bothering to buy a food plan?? (that would be those of you who are going into wada and c/b, places that don't require it).

I had the premium plan first semester and had a lot of points left over. I switched to the standard plan and I ran out quick, lol. It really depends on your eating habits and how often you plan to eat in the cafeterias/on-campus cafes.
