<p>Hi.
I’m applying early decision to Wharton. I can’t believe how pathetic my standardized test scores are…ALWAYS! I just got a 640 on IIc and a 600 on writing. My SAT scores sucked…so I took the ACT instead…and only got a 28. </p>
<p>Other than test scores, though…I have AMAZING ecs, (i’m not trying to brag…but i’m sending in a CD, I’ll get great recs from important people, my essays seem really good right now, i’m ranked in the top 1% of my class, with a 4.5 gpa, tons of ap classes where i’ve done well, i’ve won fbla competitions up to the national level, i work at a bank, play a varsity sport, have traveled internationally for summer language programs, and TONS of community service, clubs…blah…). </p>
<p>I’m also female and half-African american. (if that possibly helps any).</p>
<p>The point is…i’m sooo worried that I might not get into my dream school just because of all these stupid tests, (i can’t understand how all you people on here get 1500s and above all the time). Do you think Wharton will reject me based on there pathetic…(yes, absolutely dreadfully pathetic) test scores aside from all my leadership and academic work?</p>
<p>Please give me your sincere opinions…i’m really concerned.</p>

<p>Well here's the problem. Your scores are really bad for a school of penn's caliber (and especially wharton). I assume your SAT scores are also pretty bad since you don't even say them. If I were you I'd go with your ACT...it's better than having to show the poor SAT scores. I don't think your writing score is a big deal since you're applying to wharton, but the math score is going to hurt. That's the bad news. The good news is you seem to be an awesome candidate in all other respects. You have to hope that the admissions people don't look at your SAT scores and think that your school must suck. If they don't, I think you have a pretty good chance at acceptance. The fact that you're a minority will also help a lot. My honest opinion is that with good essays, you have a 50/50 shot at acceptance. All the best.</p>
<p>Thanks for responding. I was going to re-take the SAT II writing test over again....does that not matter just because it's for Wharton? I've taken AP language comp and got a 4 on it...and i'm in AP lit this year...blah blah. I'm also in AP calc BC...and have always done well in math.</p>
<p>The point is....I NEVER do well on stinkin' standardized tests such as these, and I can't understand why....(because I totally know this stuff!!). </p>
<p>Whatever. Thanks for the advice though....I'll really concentrate on this Saturday's ACT...and i'll re-take the math IIC (and perhaps writing) in November. </p>

<p>I think your writing still matters but obviously not as much. I'm not familiar with the wharton app...do they require sat 2's? The other thing I think you should do is make sure you say somewhere in your application how you've always been a poor standardized test-taker...don't dwell on it, just mention it in passing. Also perhaps have your guidance counselor vouch for the caliber of whatever school you attend. The SAT is a baseline of all applicants. You don't want Penn think your 4.5 is essentially BS. Your AP scores are also baselines, so thats good. If you can pull this off effectively, I think you have a good shot. And yeah, make sure you study VERY hard for this ACT, but also make sure you don't freeze up. Is your standardized testing problem related to some other factor than the actual questions?</p>
<p>The surprising thing about the Wharton application is that they require the SAT I along with 3 SAT IIs OR just the ACT.
So, do you think that I should just send in the <em>low</em> (hopefully not after tomorrow) ACT score so that they don't see the SAT II scores? My scores on those are 600 W, 640iic, and 760 French.</p>
<p>Oh...and do you know if I can send the score report from collegeboard but not put my SAT I score on there?</p>
