What areas is JH considered strongest.

Bio, BME, International Studies, Writing sems

Highly ranked programs at Hopkins include:

Biology
East Asian Studies
English
French
History of Art
International Studies
Neuroscience
Physics
Political Science
Public Health
Writing Seminars

Biomedical Engineering
Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering
Environmental Engineering

This doesn't mean that these are the only strong majors at Hopkins. Many of the programs are strong even if they are smaller or don't have a national rank. Take a look at the complete list of majors here:

Hopkins Undergraduate Admissions :: Academics :: Majors and Departments

Perhaps I am biased, but I'll vouch for the math department. If you stay away from the "engineering" versions of Calc I, II, III, Lin. Alg, you'll find the classes to be really small, and the professors to be really good.

how's the economics department?

There are a lot of previous discussion about JHU Economics:
