Stanford Chances (Improved SAT)

Here are my stats:

Gender: F
Location: California
College Class Year: 2020
High School: Public
High School Type: rarely sends grads to top schools

GPA - Unweighted: 4.00
GPA - Weighted: 4.46 (4.30 if you include freshman year where I’m not allowed to take AP classes)
Class Rank: 1st
Class Size: 210

Scores:

SAT Superscore: 670 M, 730 CR, 740 W (my first SAT was 2060, which looked really weird compared to my 35 ACT, so does a 2140 look at least somewhat better?) (PSAT: 196)
ACT: 35 (second ACT 34, I improved in other sections but went down in science)
AP: chem (3), world (4)
Took calc, physics 1, apush, and lang this year, am taking lit, stats, and bio as a senior

Extracurriculars:

Academic Decathlon (on team 9-12, starter 11-12)
CSF (9-12, lifetime member)
Key Club (9-12)
Jazz Band (9-12 on piano)
Pianist (private lessons) (3-12)

Choir Pianist(9-10)

Leadership positions:

Sophomore year: Student gov’t advisor
Senior year: Senior class secretary and hopefully also CSF VP

Athletic Status: Golf team (9)

Volunteer/Service Work:

Minor community service through Key Club and FFA
(I can’t do all that much because I have eczema and am allergic to like 8 different things so being outside and doing lots of work becomes a problem for me.)

Honors and Awards:

Academic Block E (10-12)
Academic Excellence Awards (9-12)
Scholar Athlete (9)
Possible AP Scholar
FFA Greenhand Degree
FFA CS Team 1st in State
Acadec 2nd place Club Award

Applying REA, arts supplement for piano. My major will be CS and possibly physics.

You have a good chance. There’s a great skew for women in CS since Stanford is really feeling the pressure to get more females in the STEM field. Your GPA and ACT scores are top tier and I think you have a fighting chance. Make yourself stand out in your essays and good luck!

I agree with the person above me. However, don’t bother sending in your SAT score. Your ACT score is Godtier and in all honestly its a near equivalent to a 2300. So yeah, don’t send your SAT unless Stanford requires every test score you have. Also, your AP scores are kinda low for Chem but I’m sure you know that. Anyways, keep up the great work!

@Princetonian2020 Stanford requires all tests to be sent :I Not fun, but oh well.

I live nearby Stanford, one of the admissions guys is a family friend. You still have a pretty good chance, they know that some students excel on the SAT and others on the ACT. My end all advice is make yourself stand out in your essays. You clearly have a love for CS, highlight that.

@j4jai127 Yeah, one of my essays talks about how my eczema stopped me from excelling in sports/extracirriculars but led to my discovery of CS.

You have a good chance apply EA for a boost
If you apply to the UC’s i feel you should get into those as well

@DrDrizzy I’m also applying to Berkeley, Davis, and SJSU.

Hey @JustOneDad, you had said that a 2060 looks a little strange when compared to a 35, and I was wondering if you think that my improvement to a 2140 would help at all? (I know it’s not a 2250+ but it’s still improvement)

You should get into those 3 schools, if i were you Id apply SCEA to Stanford to give yourself a boost in admissions

^Seconded

Your grades and test scores are excellent but your EC’s are pretty generic. There is nothing that you posted that would suggest an interest in CS (or physics) so you will not likely get any boost from being a female interested in CS as someone suggested. Good luck with everything!

Sorry, missed the CS FFA thing. Don’t know what that is.

@Falcon1 It’s a computers team, a part of FFA. Not a judging team because there was nothing to actually judge, but similar.

For anybody in the future who may come across this and want to know what happened because they are in a similar situation, I’m going to announce my college results as I discover.

Stanford: rejected

Realized maybe I should update about other colleges here so if people say “omg u have similar stats to me and u didn’t get in where r u goin now” they can get an idea.

SJSU: accepted
SCU: accepted
UC Davis: accepted, along with Regents Scholarship / Honors Program

Last one I’m waiting on a decision from: UC Berkeley!

Last update (for schools):
UC Berkeley: accepted! No scholarships, tho, but still cool to have it as an option

I also applied to Santa Clara University and got $25,600 per year from a Dean’s scholarship and a grant, but it’s still more expensive than other colleges, so I’m not going there.

Congratulations on your accepted schools! You deserve it!

I officially accepted UCB’s admission decision! It feels so unreal @.@
