Stanford Class of 2017 RD Discussion

Hey, do you think stanford would care if I sent 3 letters of rec instead of 2? I mean, they’d just disregard one of them right? They seem pretty strict on this. [Teacher Evaluations : Stanford University](<a href=“Page Not Found : Stanford University”>Page Not Found : Stanford University)

…scroll down. You can submit an optional one (I did).

Yeah, but it says not a teacher or counselor…

They will disregard it.

I sent in another one from my private piano teacher ^_^

Oh, sorry idk then. Mine wasn’t from a teacher so I guess I’m good.

WOW. I just noticed that I put my location as ???'13.

Uhh…

I’m going to change that now.

^ haha I noticed that!

Oooh, what are those green squares you have under your names?

EDIT: I have one too! Yay! What do they mean?

They’re reputation points. I don’t really understand their purpose, haha.

Good luck RD applicants! As a SCEA accepted student I look forward to seeing some of you at admits weekend!

That would be great!!! so excited/anxious for the stanford results on April 1st :))

yussssss 100% done with apps. now the waiting. I don’t think it’ll be as stressful as EA results though. BTW, does Stanford do likelies?

They do indeed do likely letters for athletes and the creme of the crop academic applicants

ehh… I still have 3 Canadian universities to start applications. My counselor in Canadian high school never acknowledge any top 60 American universities as safe even if my scores are within top 1%. I know I’m definitely not attending Canadian universities but I still have to apply.

yo hatesmus do you have any american safeties/matches? i’d definitely say that schools after about #30 can be safe, but you have to be careful and realistic.

No safeties for American. I never set top 30 universities as safeties though. I think UcB,LA, northwestern, Michigan are match. Of course it doesn’t mean I’m very likely to get in. It was ironic when my counselor told me UCB and UCLA are verrryy competitive and he recommended me Northwestern and WUStL as much easier schools to get into.

Typically, those who got 2000~2100 SAT1 with decent GPA went to UCLA from my high school. My GPA is better than those who went to UCLA, and my SAT1 is over 2200, so I have a solid ground in UC admission. My counselor has no knowledge in terms of American admission. I think top 10 are reach schools, as they are to most applicants, and top 10~ are match for me.

Yeah you probably have a great shot at Michigan and UCLA. I think it’s confusing when people always say “oh those schools are a reach for EVERYONE” when really they’re out of reach for 95% of people. And then they lump together, say, Harvard and Cornell as “reaches for everyone” when really Cornell doesn’t have Harvard-level selectivity. If you have a reasonable chance of Harvard, Cornell could be a match/high match. But I digress.

I agree. For highly selective universities such as Harvard and Yale, I think lot of applicants are match to high match. It’s just that high selectivity makes it impossible to predict. With decent standardized test scores, GPA, ECs and essays, I think it is high match for everyone personally. But again, it can sound arrogant to call those university high match.

Hi! I applied too. Just joining the forum, haha.
