***Stanford Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

@Spicykins is there any hope?

@phelps16 I think it will definitely help you - I just don’t know how much. The girl I mentioned wasn’t that great academically, so keep that in mind, i guess?

if you’ve done research and got like Siemens Semi-finals, does that help a lot? I’m kinda questioning it now, cuz they don’t accept research papers. So they might not care too much. What do you guys think?

@marmoset That recognition alone is good enough.

I was too late for the art supplement deadline, so I just put my music clips in the additional information. HOWEVER, the clips that I put in my add info were videos that had stilled images instead of me playing live. I only had the audio recording from my solo performances.

Would this be ok???

Really? Being a Semi-Finalist is weighted a lot? Smh i just don’t know anymore, what with all the holistic process…

If Im an average student, will the essays give me a chance?
Avg gpa, 33 act 800 math 2
Fair amount of aps
Lots of ecs with leadership positions and awards.
Electrical/computer major.

Do you think I would do poorly here? I know how awesome stanford, and im kinda afraid to even post on this thread.

But,i would go here for free. And how great is it to say that i went to stanford? Haha.

I am realistic, and hoping to go to top ucs and cal poly slo.

However, I can give stanford a pretty good essay. I know im short on time, but will strong essays make a difference?

Also, what are my chances? Online says 5% for everyone, but i feel im like 10%?

@ikim16 Nobody can give you an accurate appraisal of your chances, save the admissions committee. If you applied early action, the wait will be over tomorrow. Good luck!

Good luck everyone! Don’t freak out too much, stay calm, and may the odds be ever in your favor.

“Don’t freak out too much”

lol

Can’t believe today is the last day before we know our fates (except for those deferred of course)

Haha I kept talking about Stanford too much (completely obsessed with the school!) that even my friends had dreams that I got in. Ironically, in my dream I got outright rejected -_- I know it’s a crap shoot, and I shouldn’t have much hope for it, but I can’t help myself :frowning:

I can honestly say that I’m not expecting a great outcome for myself, but I still can’t believe that we’ll be finding out tomorrow. :open_mouth: Sooooo soon!

I was visiting the Harvard early decisions and it seemed like 90% were deferred. How many of us will get deferment?

@chunkylumbee According to the Stanford website, they try to make a definite choice as often as possible and deferrals are not as common as other elite schools.

Quote: “Stanford’s philosophy is to make final decisions whenever possible. As a result, only a small percentage of Restrictive Early Action applicants are deferred.”

According to last years stats, about 9% were deferred, and 25% of those were accepted

9% would mean about the same number accepted as well as deferred, right?

@potatoheadhala not really, accepted were 11.99% in the earlies

Good luck you guys!! Whatever happens tomorrow it will not determine your worth in any way. You are all brilliant. Yes they defer less than they accept, I’m pretty sure the numbers admitted from California reflect the massive numbers that apply from California, and no you really can’t have any idea how a supplement or specific extracurricular or race will help. You are all the cat’s pajamas and if you do get in try to remember how many people didn’t and try not to rub it in. You are allowed to be excited but think about how you would feel. YOUR FUTURES ARE SO BRIGHT THEY BURN MY RETINAS. Try to get more sleep tonight than I did last year before decisions came out

Best of luck everyone! I’m definitely recording my reaction. In or not in, I want to remember the moment. About 12 hours now! (I’m freaking out I need help)
