***Stanford Class of 2020 Applicant Discussion***

@Anonymoose3 That’s amazing! You must be an exceptional applicant to get a likely from Columbia. Where else did you apply/what’s your top choice if you get in everywhere you applied?

I got rejected vandy, northwestern, waitlisted notre dame and duke, basing it off of the pattern, I’m going to get rejected by stanford tomorrow.

I’ve gotten my fair share of rejections already, and I’m pretty sick of the flowery language and reassurances that “My credentials assure the committee that I will end up at a fantastic college”… At this point I think i’d much rather a short and sweet, “No, sorry.” Anyone else feel the same?

@erwinschrodinger and the fact that they always say they had a ‘record number of applicants’ or some other shit about how the cohort this year was especially strong. Like pls. there is a DEFINITE reason I was rejected. It would be more helpful if you told me ahahahaha

@Marcelleparcelle Alright, deal. Only if you get in, then I’ll have to cry alone.

I really do wish they would say why you didn’t get accepted. Like I’m trying so hard but not getting into great places and I don’t know why :frowning:

the feels when you’re an international asian student asking for full aid tho. There is no God in the Game of Admissions LOL

They probably don’t tell you because it would take a lot of effort for them to write that up for everyone. They don’t tell the folks who are accepted why they’re accepted either so

Thanks, @potterfan!

Accepted: MIT, Columbia, Cornell, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins

Waitlisted: Duke

Rejected: We’ll see

Waiting on the rest of the ivies, Stanford, and Georgetown.

starts doing pre decision rituals and praying to Stanford admissions gods

It really pisses me off that people who’ve already gotten into great schools refuse to withdraw other applications to schools they know they won’t go to. It’s so ****ing rude and inconsiderate

Honestly have no idea how I’ll sleep tonight

I’m so glad that this week and next week are spring break for me. At least if I don’t get in I can wallow in my tears for a few days before facing the outside world.

@mdorbust - Those students won’t affect individual applications. Colleges know applicants do this (whether they hear from their #1 before or after that particular decision arrives), and they know their own approximate yield. Schools know about what % will actually attend, so they accept much more than can actually attend their school to make up for those people. Thus, others’ decisions to hear back from a school or not doesn’t affect your application. It’s already factored into whether or not you get in.

Even if it did, they’ll take you off the waitlist if they want you.

Wait, what? Did anybody get an email from Stanford about the decision time? I didn’t but somebody mentioned they did…

@Anonymoose3 This is the Stanford thread; I’m pretty sure posters here know what yield is, but thanks for condescension anyway.

Statistical models aren’t 100% accurate, and when it comes to highly selective schools, every single spot is important.

@mdorbust - I agree with you on principal but it’s still premature as they might be waiting for a clear picture of all acceptances and FA packages to help narrow the options and visit some of them before final selection.

I do also agree that we all must try to expedite final selection.

@mdorbust - It wasn’t meant to be condescending at all. I was just noting this because I know this is a stressful time and it’s easy to get frustrated with others when maybe whatever happens is not exactly their fault.

@ComputerAge I was thinking the same thing. I mean I didn’t but apparently that one guy did…

@ComputerAge same, i didnt get one either??
