Stanford Class of 2021 Applicant Discussion

@Chips99 the article is so interesting! Do you get to see you records even if you are rejected?

@yawninglion I hope so!!

@yawninglion No, I’m pretty sure they destroy the records of those who are rejected. Could you imagine saving the files of 38,000 applicants every single year? Yikes

@nerdherd OOS stands for Out of state

REA applicant here. I am so nervous about decisions :smiley:

Everyone relax, it will be December 9th. They will make it official on Wednesday.

@kath00 RIP as in I may not get in lol

Welcome @futuredoc99 to our crazy anxiety ridden discussion!

Is there anyone from the New England Area??? I’m an international student from Maine.

OMG I hope I get in :confused:

@futuredoc99 Don’t we all.

lol well good luck everyone :slight_smile:

Is it true that applying REA gives you a better chance? A lot of my peers said don’t apply REA because you complete against a very competitive pool of applicants (Legacy/Athletes).

That’s interesting @futuredoc99 . I haven’t heard that before, but it kind of makes sense…But I still think REA is better because it’s around 9.5% instead of 4.5% RD.

9.5% comes from legacy and athlete applicants

@futuredoc99 REA odds are a lot better than RD odds (okay, maybe not a lot but you know).
Also, my friend who is applying to schools as an athlete told me that most wait to apply RD.

do u guys think Stanford already made their final decisions

@futuredoc99 My guess would be that they’ve made almost all, if not all of the decisions by this point

How long do they spend on each app

I’ve heard most people say in this thread that the deferred acceptance rate is around 15%. Compare this to the 4.5% regular decision rate. Therefore, we can guess the average deferred student is of a higher caliber than the average RD student. But if the acceptance rate for students deferred from REA is higher than the RD rate, can’t we conclude that REA denies a significant number of students that would have been accepted RD. Shouldn’t the REA deferred acceptance rate be equal or lower than the RD rate to prevent this?

I hope that made sense.
