Stanford Class of 2021 Applicant Discussion

I believe that the majority of decisions have been made, as I emailed my admissions person from my area with an update a while ago and received a reply on December 1 saying, “I apologize for not having replied to you sooner, but I did see this email and included it in your file when we reviewed it. Feel sure knowing that we included this in our review.”

@callmegray I joined the Stanford memes for edgy trees page and I’m dying laughing. Thanks for that xD

I did Linguistics as my first and International Relations as my second. I hope my ECs are strong enough to show my interest in those majors. I studied abroad in China and learned Mandarin on a US Dept of State scholarship, I teach Hindi, I am conversational in a total of four languages, and I am on the only student who votes on my town’s City Council.

I hope y’all don’t think i’m bragging-- i’m just really nervous that i’m not a strong enough candidate and I wont get in. Fingers crossed though! Cant wait till decisions are out… Until then I might as well study for my upcoming finals and should probably work on my app to other schools. That being said, good luck everyone! Hopefully we’ll be classmates in the future.

Woah! Great info @aln1234
What state are you from or city if you don’t mind me asking?

Just as I suspected.

Hawaii @kath00

Lucky you, @aln1234. HOw is the weather? I hear there is snow! LOL. Good luck to you. I bet HI was done before us in Cali…

I’m worried, I sent an update to credentials@stanford.edu to update my profile on November 18 and received no reply…
Should I send to admissions officer?
It was a pretty big thing too
if you guys were me would you send it
like should i forward the email that i sent to credentials and be like “hi ___ I just wanted to make sure that this was included in my profile thank you so much” (but with a better email)

@callmegray I would send another email, especially if it was big.

Ugh I don’t want to be annoying though
/dilemma/

@vasodys glad I won’t be the only one from following that page here now LOL

@callmegray is it bad that I also followed the Cal page though?

@vasodys Honestly, no the Cal page has better memes
i also follow the UCLA page but out of the three cal is definitely best

@callmegray Yeah, definitely, although we should mention that on this forum or risk getting killed xD

Only angery reacts pls

Would someone help me by reading the email I’m about to send to my admissions officer over PM? It’s pretty short. I’m so nervous cause I don’t wanna annoy him ><

@vasodys LOL YEAH /runs away/
sad reacts only pls

@callmegray send me that email in a pm

Isn’t it too late. I am thinking over 90% of the admissions are decided by now…

The email is just to confirm, so it’s fine.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Do you guys think that Stanford prefers more serious, focused individuals or more free spirited types? I tend to find myself a funny guy (hard to convey through this post) but my Stanford essays were all pretty serious and tended to border more on philosophical than quirky. I thought my roommate essay was clever and funny but when placed next to my other essays it just seems odd, like I’m faking being funny so that I can come across as chill. My guidance counselor told me that she liked my philosophical essays because they showed a different side of me that was unique to computer science majors but I’m wondering if a bit more humor would have helped.
