@dewrrett I don’t think that they’ll find it fake that your roommate is funny compared to the other essays. However, since they do read lots of essays, they’ll know pretty easily if you’re trying to fake being funny by how awkward or flowy your essay is. Funny people aren’t funny ALL the time, they have serious sides too, which is okay!
hey @dewrrrett , as long as you were sincere, there’s nothing to worry about. Although I understand what you’re saying because I also experienced fluctuating thoughts about my essays, I assure you that my essays were also sometimes serious, sometimes funny. That being said, you never know who is gonna be reading your application (in the sense of preferences, taste, personality…), so there is absolutely no way to know what content is best!
@dewrrrett I get what you mean completely. I don’t think they prefer one type over the other. I would guess Stanford is a pretty chill school but still values philosophical thinkin
Hey everyone! Been stalking this place for a long time… Pretty sure I’m not getting in because the odds are stacked against me 8-X but then again Stanford is my dream school. I believe in miracles. So… guess we’ll see
Best of luck to you all!
And I agree, being sincere is the most important. I don’t think they’ll hold it against you.
@dewrrrett At the end of the day, Stanford is still an intellectual powerhouse and I’m sure they would definitely appreciate the intellectual/philosophical side any time. It’s all about sincerity!
Okay so, this is going to sound very naive, but I hope it lifts some spirits in this time of anxious wait:
You see, the fact that we have all applied to Stanford already means that we are willing to achiever something bigger, reach higher. Furthermore, anyone who is reading this right now has joint/discovered an immense community of dedicated people that absolutely love Stanford. Reasons for attachment to Stanford may be different for all of us, but the sole fact that we are so unified makes us, as a group of applicants (and prospective applicants for some), undeniably strong, confident, and motivated. You may not realize it, and some may argue that they are not confident at all, especially now, but, in reality, you have proven your confidence when you hit that submit button. That being said, if you were applying to my university (it doesn’t exist, this isn’t an advertisement haha), I would admit all of you because people like you are very scarce.
Sincerely,
A hopeful applicant
Hi guys! Will our decisions be released at 4pm of western time or eastern time? Because I’m from NY
@21kagura I think it’s PST
That will be 7pm for those from the east. Thanks so much.
You’re right. Thanks for spreading cheer. I hope we-- all of us-- meet at Stanford past all our hardships and with all our quirks @MyNameIsMichael
some kid in my school whos more qualified than me in every aspect applied for the sole purpose of sabotaging me, i asked what state stanford is in he couldnt even answer. If an admissions person compared our profiles it wouldnt even be a question. and there have never been 2 kids accepted from my school the same year. dang it man
@asapJazzy If the kid doesn’t even know what state it’s in, I’m sure his essays were terrible - he won’t get in! (IF he really even applied.)
My SAT: 1410 (770 in math, 640 in CR)
His SAT: 1350 (680 in math, 670 n CR)
My SAT 2: 710 in Math 1 640 in Chem
His SAT 2: 710 in Math 1 770 in Chem
My AP scores: 4 in Chem
His AP: 5 in Chem, 3 in Physics, 3 in World
His course rigor: Much much stronger than mine (Im in AB Calc hes in BC, etc.)
He is in the top 1% of the class I am in the top 4%
His race: Hispanic
Mine: African American
My Extra-Curriculars: Blow his away but I am certain that he will fudge it because he knows that you cant really get caught
My essays: I am certain mine are better
Interview: He didnt get one, mine went well
Recs: One of the Chem teachers thinks hes like the greatest student ever and gave him an out of this world rec. My recs are superb but not extremely unique
His Major; Chem Eng
My Major: Energy Resources Engineering
literally the only advantage i have are my SATs
i have literally no chance
@asapjazzy Stop comparing yourself to him - there are a lot of factors that go into admissions that are out of your control. Both of you can get accepted or deferred or rejected- they don’t have a quota from a specific high school. Don’t drive yourself crazy trying to guess what admissions will think. And the essays are VERY important - they use it to see what type of person you are, and if you would fit in to Stanford. Admissions is unpredictable; see what happens.
And are you guys 100% sure they dont count freshman year, I finished with a 2.8 freshman year but a 4 and 3.7 sophomore and junior year, I wouldve been ranked 2 or 3 if it werent for my freshman year
@ASAPJAZZY To be quite honest, looking over the two profiles he isn’t that much more qualified than you in the first place. The advantages that you said he had were so minuscule that it’s pretty much negligible. It will come down to sincerity and personal factors that neither of you can control so relax.
@CiteYourSources bless up brotha
or sista whatever you are
@callmegray I’m in the same boat as you are. I sent an email to credentials@stanford.edu asking where to send application updates and they said to send it by fax or via email to credentials@stanford.edu…I received an automated response saying they received my message but might not respond due to a large volume of emails received. I am hoping they added it to my profile? I did what they told me to…I don’t even have admissions officer information
