Hey Class of 2021 applicants! A member of Stanford’s EA Class of 2020 here. Just wanted to wish all of you good luck this next week. The waiting is agonizing…believe me…I remember. I just want to remind you all that you’re extraordinarily talented and driven (just by having the initiative to come on this website shows that) and that even if Stanford doesn’t work out there are other great options out there. Stanford has both perks and drawbacks just like any other school.
Good luck to all. My one piece of advice for students who are accepted; stay humble. Keep in mind there will be some of your fellow students who were rejected from their dream school. They may not be in the mood to watch you outwardly celebrating.
When I was accepted EA my plan was not to tell anyone at school for at least a week. I wanted to give time to fellow students who received rejections. Unfortunately one of my friends saw my acceptance letter on my desk at home and told my teachers the next day. Later that day the vice-principal made an announcement over the school intercom I had been accepted to Stanford. It was considered a big deal at my high school.
OMG made announcement on the intercom?? Wow I think my DD would want to be swallowed up by the ground if that happened to her.
@googledrone@askbks123 did you get notified a couple days prior that the REA match would happen on the specific Friday? Just confirming if we can count on an email tomorrow that tells us that we would find out this coming Friday.
@kath00 For the past few years, Stanford tweeted on the Wednesdays before the Fridays, saying that the REA results will be released at a particular time. So, I expect a tweet in around 20-30 hours.
Hey guys, just thought I’d pop in here and say something. Stanford has been my dream school since seventh grade, way before I even realized how prestigious it was. Neither one of my parents, immigrants from Russia, attended college, and my school has 2 AP classes and has never sent anyone to HYPS. Being accepted would be my dream come true, but I tend to trust my gut with things and this time, it’s telling me that I’m going to get rejected. I just feel it. And if this was this time last year, I would be devastated, and I still am pretty sad. But for all of us who are as driven as we are, a rejection is not the end of the world. It doesn’t matter if I end up at Stanford or the University of Alabama - I know that I will achieve my goals regardless. I don’t know any of you personally but for those who will get in on Friday, I am beyond thrilled for you. For all of us that don’t, let’s be sad for a couple of days and then move on. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s to never give up. <3
@futuredoc99 I do varsity swimming but I’m not excellent at it. I have never won a meet or anything like that. It’s just a way to stay fit.
However, I do believe I read somewhere that Stanford does want to see you apply yourself athletically as well as academically. (I can try to find the source)
ehhhh i play three sports and i think that’s gonna keep me from getting in. 4.0, 34 act, etc etc, but like a lot of people in here say, i don’t have a hook. i’m well rounded, sure, but don’t have one area where i really excel. so, unless you’re nationally known and being recruited, i’d almost say that they hurt you.
I don’t have a hook but I’ve won international competitions… for violin tho
and i’m asian
i can’t tell if they’ll ignore it or not cause lots of asians play violin
i hope they don’t though. i invested lots of time into it
I think it all depends on essays. Most of the people who apply to Stanford have stellar academics, great extracurriculars, tons of awards etc. so the way adcoms distinguish between candidates is the essays. Hooks are also important but if you make up for that with quality essays, you should be good. (I personally have a hook which I think is very unique, but I’m getting really paranoid about my essay quality.)
