Is a Stanford alumni interview a good sign? Also, does anyone know if an excellent arts portfolio increases the likelihood of acceptance (in addition to academics and test scores of course…)?
@IvyBound0211 Unfortunately, I think it’s determined by availability of alumni in your area. But if you did well, it’ll help your chances! And if you weren’t offered an interview, it won’t affect your chances at all since Stanford still interviews very few of its applicants (20-25%?)
A good arts portfolio is probably most helpful if you’re applying as some sort of arts major but it will help regardless, probably
@IvyBound0211 Interviews are randomly selected if I recall correctly. Art portfolio applicants are compared to other art portofolio applicants (I think)
@AznDude525 if that is true, what do they do in the rare cases of a male submitting a dance supplement? I’m assuming there are not many to compare.
Chicago
My DD submitted an art portfolio as an EC with no relation to intended major. She had an alumni interview. With no hooks, I think her chances are like 1 in 30.

@grtd2010 I honestly wouldn’t worry too much about not having hooks. They can be important, but they’re pretty overrated. There are tons of people walking around Stanford’s campus that didn’t have any hooks, I’m sure!

Just to get to know the applicant pool better… what was everyones favorite/unique EC?
@daynknightkid research!
@ingramkobe hello there. I’m Vietnamese, which is technically your neighbor.
@DaynKnightkid I’m the Founder and Programmer of my Game Studio, mostly horror games. How about you?
@DaynKnightkid I pretty much focused on music/flute and environmental volunteering
@Oscardinho Damn that’s awesome!! For me it’s competitive snowboarding.
and @AznDude525 maybeeee lol
Can having a parent who is the CEO of a large company help at all?
@DaynKnightkid that’s cool. I’m studying in Maine but I’m still afraid of winter sports because of the cold weather, haha.
I worked as an intern at the UN and did research on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict
