@ASAPJAZZY Which subject test did you take ?
Math 1 @moroccan99
Hi, will these early decisions be posted somewhere today? My son applied EA.
@Jenmadden Supposedly they will announce the decision day today
@ASAPJAZZY they don’t require subject tests anyways so I think ur fine
Where were the decisions posted?
So it isn’t an announcement of who got in just an announcement of when they will be announced?!
@Jenmadden Exactly
@hindushindu NJ is a large state with high achieving seniors. Your username is a giveaway- HINDU/HINDI
@hindushindu I’m from NJ and we have 5 kids applying from my school. Last night when people were saying what state they’re from i ended up PMIng 2 people from my county alone…so yeah there’s quite a bit of competition.
But since NJ tends to be a high-achieving state, it could be possible that they accept a higher proportion of NJ kids? Can someone confirm or deny such a notion?
Well my high school is pretty competitive (in california) cause many asians and theres always like 3~5 people who get in from my school each year
@callmegray are you in one of those ultra-competitive high schools near Palo Alto?
no, we’re not ultra-competitive
but we do live in orange country which currently has the fastest growing rate of asian immigrants in america so
we’re 74th in california which isnt SUPER competitive but fairly competitive
461 in the country
@dewrrrett That is an excellent question. The most common thing that my son’s classmates tell him is they all thought they were not getting in(including himself). So everyone has a chance. He had a 3.8uw gpa, 34 ACT, standard EC’s nothing remarkable. He did do a couple of TV commercials and TV episodes but those happened when he was young. I think the key for him was the essays. How do you stand out in 40,000 applications? The adcom member shared with me that they read every essay carefully. The standard “I want to get into Stanford to accomplish my dream of helping others”-they have seen a million times. There are some that have overcome great hardships and tragedies but let’s be honest most kids applying to Stanford are not in this category. Some were funny and those can stand out but those are tricky. My son’s essay focused on how his personal decision directly affected someone’s else life. He make it personal. I don’t know if this helps or confuses you more but best of luck nevertheless.
I’m at a tiny private French school in Chicago. There’s very little competition (I’m the only one applying) so that’s pretty awesome!
My son is from a very small community in Texas. I doubt he has a chance however he told me that if he didn’t try then he would always wonder…what if? So he jumped right in and did his application. Stats are okay…he doesn’t have a hook though.
@Tgirlfriend most people who get into elite schools don’t have hooks. Not everyone is URM or legacy or is good enough to be a recruited athlete. Just something to keep in mind. Best of luck to your son
@njg00n Thank you. Best of luck to you also.
