Stanford EA accepts 17% am i better or worse than 17% chance?

Posted this in wrong forum, so here it is in proper place
Unrelated to rest of Post: also could you suggest other Strong Engineering schools that would be less of a reach than Stanford

I know im a reach to get into Stanford but do you think i have a better/worse chance than 17% of getting in (basically im asking if im better than the average EA applicant(rejected or accepted). I know its a reach so dont tell me that please : ) any sort of guesses number wise would be great(ie 1%, 30% etc)

Im from a top South Carolina Public Highschool ( I know this doesnt mean much seeing as it is south carolina were talking about)

SATs Math 740 CR 730 Writing 680
SATII Chem 780 MathII 720

AP
Euro 5
Chem 5
Senior Aps
Gov, Econ, BC calc, English

ECs:
*Student Leader in Youth Group been planning/ leading events, Bible studies, teaching sunday school etc. for all of highschool.
*4 year varsity Polevaulter
*Week long mission trip has turned into Monthly mentoring program with low income children in a neighboring city for past 2 years.
*Humanitarian trips to aid Haitian refugees outside Nassau and to help children of Migrant workers in a neighboring city (the mentoring thing)
*Materials Science and Engineering Research program at Clemson University.

Essays:
*about competing in my first triathlon
*about my interest in quantum physics/materials science
*about my church leadership roles
*about my research experience at Clemson

My Hook: I wanna major in Materials Science(small major) im writing an essay about intellectual excitement about how my experience in the Materials science research combined with an intrest in modern physics lead me to be very excited about materials science and engineering.

My Reflection: Compared to other peoples posts my stats are crap and so are my AP's number wise, i havent won anything or recieved awards so im giving myself about 15% to get into Stanford EA.

You forgot your GPA again.

umm stanford would be a big reach unless u r val/sal? GPA?

Try Olin College of Engineering

I don't know much about Stanford's admissions process, but I can tell you that colleges look for applicants from "underepresented" states like South Carolina (I'm from Alabama and I got scholarships to attend UMichigan for being a regional minority).

Also, most CC students are the very top of the applicant pool, so don't let them discourage you. Your essay sounds wonderful, but make sure that the question specifically asks that you write about something academic. If it doesn't, make sure to express your interests and enthusiasm the same way you did on this post elsewhere...even maybe send them a short, extra note.

oh yea...u said less of a reach than stanford...
well then...
UT Austin
Purdue
U Michigan
Cornell
Rice
UPenn?
UNC

Oh, and other schools...(listed from easiest to hardest for you to get into)

Case Western
RPI
Wisconsin
Carnegie Mellon
Georgia Tech (relatively close by and one of the best engineering schools in the nation)
Vanderbilt
UMichigan
UChicago
UC Berkeley
Cornell (if you don't mind the cold, I think you have a good chance)

My weighted GPA is something like 4.6 (i doubt that means much to anyone)
My class rank is 10ish/ 650ish
I had an exceptional Junior year with my lowest grade being a 95 so im definately showing improvement each year and my freshman year (which stanford doenst look at) was probaly my worst

Your chance is far lower than 17%. You need to understand that the EA round takes in most of the recruited athletes, legacies and other special admits. Your SAT is below average for Stanford, your GPA and rank typical. Your math SAT is low for any top 10 engineering program.

Bobby so are you saying i have something like a 10% chance because i can deal with a 1 in 10 shot at my dream school or are you saying nicely that i basically have no chance of getting in and am just wasting my effort?

God, I hate these threads, but since I applied to Stanford and got, it still holds a place in my heart...I'll chip in. Personally, I think you've got a good a shot as anyone. Thinking back to when I applied SCEA in the fall...once you hit a certain field of stats...the 4.0s, the 2100s and like a 750 average SAT II's, there's no way to predict your admission. I'd say you're the average Stanford EA applicant (stat-wise), meaning you've got a 17-20% shot at EA.

Why choose to write about Clemson reasearch experience (I'm assuming for the roommate essay) over your trips to Haiti? The roommate prompt is your best opening to show something non-academic about yourself.

UMichigan Engineering would be just as much of a reach as Stanford, probably.

Ill have to consider doing that somebody, it is probaly a more logical choice.
-Edit this is what i was planning to do my essays on.

1 asks about most meaningful ec - Writing about church group, specificaly planning/leading bible studies.

2 asks about intellectual intrest - about modern physics(quantum, string theory, etc.)

3 Roomate one - about training for and competing in my first triathlon

4 Picture one - Had planned to talk about my research at Clemson (my actual research would hardly be a part of it) was planning on focusing on what i learned about myself (what motivates me,what i wanna do with my life) and about what i learned about research in general.

The trip to the Bahamas (they were haitian refugees so not in Haiti) sounds like a good topic so ill have to think about that, it was 2 years ago so would be harder for me to write about.
