like the ones that are @stanford.edu? im guessing definitely not until you send in that little card that says you're definitely going to stanford, so most likely they won't be in the you-got-in envelope, maybe not until orientation...? but those are just guesses, i actually have no clue.

we didnt get ours for a LONG time... like in the spring... i dunno

What is the format of the e-mail addresses? Ex. - Are they jdoe@stanford.edu or johndoe@stanford.edu. I'm asking because I know someone at Stanford but don't know his e-mail address.

The format can be anything you want. I see a lot of jdoe@stanford.edy, but you could also include a middle initial and make it jldoe@stanford.edu. But what if there's another John Doe on campus? Maybe jdoe1@stanford.edu

you can look up people (students included) on the online directory on stanford.edu. just type the name in the search box and search for people. (I used it to find an email of a current student, too.)

Thanks a lot.

When you pick your login name, you can pick anything you want that hasn't been taken already. You can also have 2 floating aliases (which can be changed anytime) but these have to end with your last name. So if you want something safe and boring like jdoe@stanford.edu to put on your future resume, you could always make that the alias and then set your login to whatever interesting name you want.

I have no idea, but you may be able to sign up for an SUNet ID right now if your acceptance letter gives you an ID number as well. Try it out here:

how can u cancel an old one? I had a @stanford.edu when I worked at Stanford, but I no longer remember the password... Will this be replaced by my student email in the spring, or will they assign me a new one?

keep in mind you can't change the main one, so it'd be best to pick something safe -- usually using your name.

i remember i could use my ID # to sign up for an e-mail account, but it wasn't activated and functional until I sent in my registration card.
