I was accepted EA at Stanford this year, but as I've been researching it and think about it, I've realized that they have a particular program at their Business School that is absolutely PERFECT for me. My question is: If I know I want to go to business school here, is it a bad idea to do my undergrad here also? What, if any, are the disadvantages of doing undergrad and grad work at the same school? It just seems like I almost always see people doing these in two separate places.

Any thoughts would be really appreciated - especially from parents or people in grad school. Thank you!

Why is it more perfect for you then other business schools may I ask?

It's way too soon to be basing decisions on where you expect to go to business school. One reason to go to a different B-school than undergrad would be to get access to two different networks, but again I wouldn't base your undergrad choice on this. People don't go to business school until their later 20's, and that is a long way off for you.

However, if you love Stanford that much, there's nothing wrong with going back to B-school there. It's far more important to go where you will be stimulated and productive than to worry about small things like going to a different place to meet different people. The vast majority of people going to Stanford B-school probably didn't attend undergrad there anyway, so you're going to meet a different cross-section of people anyway.

My advice to you would be to go to Stanford if that's the school you like best for undergrad. Don't overthink it.

There is no assurance that you will be admitted to, or even want to apply to, Stanford's MBA program. Your post assumes that you will not grow or change during the next four years. Which other schools are you considering for your undergraduate years? If your undergraduate choices are among Princeton, Stanford & Yale, then consider Princeton for your BA/BS degree as Princeton does not have a graduate business school & does not accept transfers--so it may be now or never. Does Stanford have a joint MBA/BA or BS option that awards both degrees one year earlier than normal?

If you get into Stanford, just go to it. It's not gonna kill you if you go to the same school for both....

In terms of likelihood of being accepted, look where Stanford MBA program admits came from. It can't hurt that you went to Stanford undergrad, I am sure.

In terms of doubling up on experience rather than being more adventurous, decide whether that's important later.

I wouldn't give this a second thought. And you may not get into Stanford GSB no matter where you go.

going to same school for undergrad and grad school won't harm you at all. It seems that a bunch of people do this actually, esp. the people who went to HYS. As an example, Harvard Law School enrols like over 230ish students each year who went to Harvard for undergrad. That's roughly a quarter of the entire student body at HLS. I heard that Harvard Business school is similar to its Law School in this regard as well. Also, you might not get into Stanford MBA later, since it is the hardest MBA to get into. So, choosing not to go to Stanford undergrad bc of this reason wouldn't be a very good idea.
