I'm all for freedom of speech, but I am absolutely disgusted by this article.

Any thoughts?

I'm all for freedom of speech, but I am absolutely disgusted by this article.

Any thoughts?

I thought it was pretty funny.

Totally agree with JimmyEatWorld. I did not stop laughing during that article.

It's not funny. There's been proof that Osama was partly inspired by Hollywood disaster movies.

Muslims as as a whole just don't know how to laugh at sarcasm. It's counterproductive for us to create it. Hopefully this Christopher Lin gets locked up or something.

Obviously this article is in parody (and yeah, it was pretty damn funny). I actually know this person (from debate a couple of years ago) and know that he's a pretty reasonable guy overall.
I'd say that it was pretty risque, considering that doing a satire of terrorism is ultimately a risky thing, even now. It was at the stanford daily's discretion to publish or not, and clearly they thought it was clearly ridiculous enough to be not taken seriously and was ultimately poking fun at the Bush Administration more than Islamic terrorism (and the religion in general) itself. There are very few parts of the articles that ridicule terrorism itself- instead they mock the American war on terror, Bush's policies, Bush's spin on the terror, American pop culture, etc.
I think it's kind of absurd that some of you guys are calling for him to be 'locked up'. And what is with the qualifier 'I'm all for free speech, but in THIS case...'
Both of those sentiments seem to pose far more of a threat than a bit of well-written bathos and comedic self-deprecation.

Are you kidding? That **** is hilarious. Um, kill yourself now if you want to "lock this guy up" because the world doesn't really need another dumbass with no sense of humor.

Edit: greatestyen, actually its pretty counterproductive to classify the whole Muslim world as unable to laugh at sarcasm...and violence in movies doesn't create the urge to go bomb buildings...they only affect people who have a tendency towards violence anyways.

You're the one I'm disgusted with. Ignorance... sigh

though it is admittedly a little risque, i almost peed myself

that was great

i think it sorta picked on everyone a little, so that in the end it canceled out and was fair

but most importantly... it was hilarious

I'm gonna side with the majority on this one.

i loved the article! Anyone who argues otherwise is an idiot and needs to learn how to appreciate satire.

dang, that's some good writing. can't wait to try out for the daily next year!!
and yeah, some you need to chillax and get your panties (or manties) out of a bunch. that's the funnies thing I"ve read in a while, and makes me totally more stoked to go to stanford.

i think we can all just agree to hate this immoral lying administration.
and does anyone know whatever happened to chris holt, the guy who used to have a really hilarious monthly column in the daily?

I believe he is currently abroad. I think he wrote a column a week or two ago about it.

they should bomb disneyland....

sniggers

funniest thing i'v heard.

The writing was a bit sloppy but I don't see what all the fuss is about. This isn't the new york times editorial page, its a campus newspaper with a readership of maybe 10-20 thousand. Let the kids have their fun.

Dang, icefalcon, you know Christopher Lin? Man, I would LOVE to meet him, or even talk to him! Goodness knows the world needs more people with a sense of humor. =]

hilarious lol... !

It's obvious that Muslims, as a whole, can't handle sarcasm. It's a totally alien concept for them.

And greatestyen wins the most prejudiced poster on this thread award!

I wouldn't be sad if they bombed Disneyland or the rest of Orange County, CA for that matter. However, DisneyWORLD I would be upset because it's much better than DisneyLAND.
