Stanford University Transfer Fall 2010

<p>cali community college is the easier way to get into stanford right?</p>

<p>Hey guys, I’ve been waitlisted as well. Has anybody from the waitlist got any updates from Stanford so far?</p>

<p>Wow…haven’t been here in a month or so. Anway, did anyone read this?</p>

<p>[Man</a> accused of duping Harvard got into Stanford - Yahoo! News](<a href=“http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100609/ap_on_re_us/us_academic_fraud_probe;_ylt=Aq93.5ezhe3WJnj2XgaSrQdvzwcF;_ylu=X3oDMTJ0azB0bTA4BGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMTAwNjA5L3VzX2FjYWRlbWljX2ZyYXVkX3Byb2JlBHBvcwMyOQRzZWMDeW5fYXJ0aWNsZV9zdW1tYXJ5X2xpc3QEc2xrA21hbmFjY3VzZWRvZg--]Man”>http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100609/ap_on_re_us/us_academic_fraud_probe;_ylt=Aq93.5ezhe3WJnj2XgaSrQdvzwcF;_ylu=X3oDMTJ0azB0bTA4BGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMTAwNjA5L3VzX2FjYWRlbWljX2ZyYXVkX3Byb2JlBHBvcwMyOQRzZWMDeW5fYXJ0aWNsZV9zdW1tYXJ5X2xpc3QEc2xrA21hbmFjY3VzZWRvZg--)</p>

<p>It appears that at least one transfer spot has opened up.</p>

<p>Wow, that’s kinda sad, but this guy has clearly gone too far in his lies…
Hope Stanford will react and admit someone for his place!</p>

<p>Wow I don’t understand this. Because the Stanford transfer admissions process is extremely selective, you would think they wouldn’t accept anyone who was expelled from Harvard. I mean, he couldn’t have faked his letters of recommendations and his transcript too. The admission officers know that some people might fake an application to Stanford, so one would think they would be able to sniff it out especially with the tens of thousands of apps they read each year. It’s a shame that Stanford even admitted him when there are hundreds of more deserving applicants. Although I am not a Stanford transfer applicant (I applied as a high school senior though), this story has made me lose even more respect toward Stanford’s admission practices.</p>

<p>U can’t know how good he falsified his records, especially with today’s harsh competition in Ivies ppl r ready to do everything to just get in. And as far as I remember, Harvard also fell into his lies accepting him</p>

<p>Just got an update, I got waitlisted again, haha. They said they took 6 kids off of the waitlist, and that candidates on the waitlist that were not offered admission would be put on an extended waitlist and notified in late June. I’m hoping to get a verdict sometime before I graduate.</p>

<p>I got waitlisted as well…this waiting kills!</p>

<p>@daur7777: However, if he was expelled by Harvard, it would be listed on his Harvard transcript. How can he falsify that? Stanford requires an official transcript sent from the university’s office of the registrar.</p>

<p>@ slik nik: it’s true that Stanford requires an official transcript, but not necessarily sent directly. Or, it’s not a strict requirement and they’re rather lenient about that cuz I, for example, sent the transcript myself after it had been given to me personally by the registrar. I did so cuz I forgot about the requirement, but he could apparently have used it to his advantage…
To All Those on Extended Waitlist: GOOD LUCK and let’s hope they actually take at least some of us! I can’t imagine myself at any other college, no way…:frowning:
PS. Post here if u’ve been put on waitlist again so that we could get a rough idea of the number</p>

<p>@ daur7777: Okay, I could see how it could have been falsified. Best of luck to you and others in getting off the waitlist :)</p>

<p>@ slik nik: thanks. One question, from your posts I understood that u aren’t a stanford student, r u?</p>

<p>Hey guys, Im really looking to apply to stanford for the 2011-2012 school year.
Heres my stats:
GPA High School: 3.98 unweighted(no weights at my school for all the AP’s)
GPA through 3 quarters at UCLA: 3.97
Major: Business Economics
-Scholarship Chair of Fraternity
-Student Accounting Society
-Academic All State in High School, 3 varsity sport athlete
-Intern at Morgan Stanley
-normal leadership and volunteer and work experience stuff</p>

<p>If you think its possible, or If I should try and attend a different uni thats good for Investment banking and consulting, just shout out.</p>

<p>Stanford’s transfer acceptance rate hovers around 1.5% - about 20 transfer students per year. There is just not that much play there for all the excellence candidates.</p>

<p>With that said, Stanford seems to like hooks - the Marine, the DJ with a hip-hop hit, the male cheerleader from the Philippines. Etc. Your stats and ECs look pretty normal and don’t stand out as something different. So the same advice I would give anyone looking at Stanford transfer - do it only if you can afford the $90 application fee and really just want to give it a shot, because realistically speaking that is time and effort that you can put toward a more realistic transfer school.</p>

<p>how does this look: bad HS GPA (top % at my school but don’t believe it’s enough), 3.8+ college GPA, ACT: 30, hospital internship senior year in high school, lots of volunteering hrs</p>

<p>I’m being very general of course, but I mostly would like advice on the improvement I made from HS to college…</p>

<p>So, I’m thinking about applying as a transfer student for fall of '11. “Chance me!”</p>

<p>Intended major: Economics</p>

<p>Personality: Academic </p>

<p>(NOTE: the following “lists” are not ranked in order of importance, nor are their contents)</p>

<p>Detractors:
-I have a low G.P.A.
-Never took the SAT/ACT, but plan on doing so if I end up applying
-No HSD–rather, I hold a GED
-I’m not an URM
-I hold no major awards</p>

<p>Attractors:
-In CC, I have an average of a 3.9 in classes that I have completed, and A’s in honors courses completed (NOTE: I have plenty of W’s, and a handful of F’s, so my overall CC G.P.A. is rather abyssmal)
-Was a writing center tutor & beacon tutor for English/Writing
-Married
-Started my own financial company that engages in alternative finance (holding assets of around $2.5m) from scratch
-Well-read; an intellectual (of not the highest caliber, mayhap, but one in spirit nonetheless)
-Non-typical age: I’m currently 22, will be 23 when I apply
-I’m the club counselor for the NHS at a private, IB school
-I volunteered as a youth coordinator for over 5 years at a large community center, where I now sit as a Director (member of exec. committee)
-I’ve also volunteered for over 3 years at a PAC
-I have strong communication skills (public speaking and writing)</p>

<p>Possible “lipstick” & questions:
-I’m asian/middle eastern (ethnically, but born and raised in the Bay Area); am I an URM?
-Neither of my parents completed a college (although my siblings went to UC’s, including Berkeley); am I a “First generation-er”?
-I’m a practicing Muslim and have studied my religion extensively (memorized 1/3rd of our holy book, along with numerous religious edicts, narrations, and such); can/should I include this, if I do apply?
-I was homeschooled for much of my youth, which has led me to become somewhat of a perfectionist; Is this a good trait to have and to portray?
-I’m bilingual (well, can write and read in my second language, but understand only about half of it all); should I include this?</p>

<p>Why I want to go to Stanford:
-I love the campus, the Bay Area, and I’m extremely proud of its success
-I love how Stanford integrates entrepreneurial concepts and methods in their curriculum; I believe that this fosters a highly innovative and business-centric attitude (and one that I’d like to further develop in myself)
-I will learn from some of the best in the field
-I will sit with some of the brightest students in the world; make friends with many, and compete with the rest
-I’ll get to build a social network of future leaders, fellow entreprenuers, and such
-I will have access to some of the best research facilities available (yes–I want to engage in economic research ;()
-Going to Stanford will boost my own credentials as the President/CEO/etc., etc., of my company and will make it easier for me to ask for venture funding (Sand Hill Road c’mon! And most of those VC’s are Stanford Alumnus)
-Two of my siblings went to Cal, and I would like to one up them ;)</p>

<p>PS: forgive any spelling or syntax errors. I’m not even a Stanford applicant yet!</p>

<p>PPS: yeah, I’m well aware that Stanford’s transfer applicant rate is floating around 1%-- so while I appreciate comments and advice, the “lolol101l01loollll u gna flalil!!!” posts are unnecessary. Thanks!</p>

<p>The bad cc record is a major problem.</p>

<p>Last year’s thread, closing.</p>
