Stanford University Transfers Fall 2011

Maybe the length of time is a good sign. I don’t think a call to them asking what’s up would be out of order.

I’m afraid to bother them because I already did last week. I’m also worried that the length of time is a bad sign, because like the original cycle of decisions, maybe rejections go out last. Then again, Stanford released everything at once the first time around… Aaargh! Lol if I could just get someone else on the waitlist to answer me…

I’m really stressed about this. I just found out USC won’t give me enough fin. aid to attend, so Stanford is my last hope. I can’t even afford to go to the local university. I really need this, guys. Keep your fingers crossed for me!! And thank you all; it’s been a pleasure taking this ride with all of you for the last few months!

@chasethecarrot:

You have only applied for USC and Stanford? You dont have any affordable safety school in your list?

Oh my goodness. School is so expensive these days. I’m not an applicant, but my son will be a CC transfer appl soon - and I suspect I’ll be strapped. I don’t think he’ll be in the Stanford ballpark, but all schools are expensive now - even in-state publics here in CA are getting expensive.

I think I recall your story and I really wish you the best of luck. THe waitlist is so tiny maybe that’s why you aren’t getting responses. But then, a small waitlist means better chances.

Thanks! I appreciate it. Yes, the cost is ridiculous, and I didn’t find out until I was halfway done with my Associate’s at the local CC that the only merit scholarships the local university offers are for freshmen only!! So my 4.0 doesn’t help me at all there, and they don’t have need based aid. Getting into one of the schools that pays for everything if you’re lucky enough to be accepted (and happen to live in extreme poverty like my family unfortunately does) became my best shot. And it’s not over yet, so I’ll keep hoping till I know otherwise… And if I don’t get into Stanford I can try to do the local thing; I’d just need to take out the max amount of Stafford loans and… Well, idk. Get two jobs, I guess. But how would I have daycare for school and two jobs, you ask? Yeah… Good question…

Lol I’m getting depressed again so I’m just going to go squeeze my eyes shut really tight and keep envisioning that acceptance email. ;)

Hey CTC:

Sorry for the haitus in responding to your question.
I haven’t heard anything from Stanford yet. I’ll PM you my summer activities.

Thanks for the reply! I’ll reply to your msg in just a minute, but I thought I would post this here so future tortured souls might benefit from it in some way. So, it’s Friday, June 25th, at about 5:30 in California… And still no answer. Aaaargh. Have you heard anything yet? I’ve convinced myself that Stanford likes to send out decisions on Fridays, so I’m pretty disappointed by the lack of an answer today… :frowning: I soooo need this… Anyway, I’m starting to second guess myself, but I thought I remembered reading somewhere that we would definitely have our answers by July 1st. Anyone else on the waitlist remember that? If that’s the case, we’re for sure down to no more than five days…

CTC: To say your situation is difficult would be an understatement. :/

I was also hoping for something yesterday but… obviously nothing. If you wanted confirmation, I also remember July 1st being the latest we would hear from them.

If I don’t get into Stanford I’ve still got plenty of plans for my current institution and local community. These first few years of college have flown by and I’m sure I’ll be applying to grad schools before I know it.

A huge pro at my current institution is almost zero in house competition. I’ve been nominated for a few of competitive/prestigious fellowships & scholarships and I would focus on getting one of those in this next year if I stayed. Basically I’m shooting for top 20 (including the UK) for Grad school.

^ I have to say I’m at least comforted by the fact that I’m not alone here! Really, thank you for returning to CC to wait with me. :)

So, if the first is the deadline, we MUST be just moments away… That’s both anxiety inducing and comforting all at once lol. I checked out last year’s thread and discovered that group received replies on June 10th!! Why do you think it’s taking so much longer this year? I know they only took about 20 transfers last year, so maybe that’s it… Since they took 3 times as many this year, there are probably just as many waitlisted applicants to review and choose from. I’m thinking that increased number probably means a higher likelihood for spots opening up to waitlistees, but with more waitlistees to chose from as well, I guess it’s pretty much a wash…

I’m just torturing myself, huh? Lol I can’t help it. I’m fully obsessed with the impending decision at this point.

Anyway, sounds like you have a lot going for you, goingforanobel. I’m really happy for you. Obviously your hard work has paid off; you have earned the right to incredible opportunities no matter where you go! Just out of curiosity, what is your top choice for grad school?

Haha, after a bunch of rejections I kinda dropped off CC to just move on… plus threads I was active in kinda dropped out. Thanks for bringing this one back up!

I wouldn’t be surprised if a factor in the time is the larger amount of students who were accepted.

As for top choice grad schools (in no particular order)- Cambridge, Oxford, London School of Economics, Stanford, Georgetown, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, & University of GA.

The list is probably going to change, but those are the schools that I’m generally looking at. I’ll probably throw some safeties in there too. I have a preference towards UK schools because of certain programs (Rhodes/Marshall/Cambridge-Gates Scholars). If I get one of those I’d pretty much be sold.

How about yourself? Thinking about Grad school?

Yes, but it’s not a certainty. I’m open to anything that will allow me to make a positive, lasting impact on the world, while ensuring my children will have the opportunity to live the life they deserve (which I have essentially robbed them of thus far…). My current ideas revolve around integrating media and technology into education more, and making Americans more globally competitive, so with the right connections and geographical assistance, I might not need to go to grad school to accomplish my goals. Then again, I might just want to anyway… I’m interested in pretty much everything, lol. I can say with certainty, however, that my ability to continue my education- undergrad or grad- is and will be entirely dependent on money; the availability of scholarships and grants. So, who knows…

I had also bailed on CC after receiving all my decisions, but after the 7th (the first possible day Stan said we might receive a final answer), my anticipation steadily rose until I found my way back to CC and the solace that lies within, thanks to my fellow torture victims. I’m thankfully not active in twenty threads simultaneously anymore, though. Lol that was getting time consuming- with time I didn’t actually have! XD Yeah, you guys know what I’m talking about… Lmao

Your motives for pursuing your education are very similar to mine. I think it’s very admirable and something that I wish my parents had passionately pursued. Although I don’t have kids, fatherhood is something I look forward to a lot. I want to be solid enough so that I can support both my future wife and children while making a difference in the world. I hope that the example I set for my kids will make them think it’s natural to be their best and help change the world.

From what I’ve read, it sounds like you have an incredible story. Whatever happens, I have no doubt that you have the potential to make the best of it. With that, I’m sure there are grad schools who would be more than happy to invest into your education so that you can make a lasting impact. I look forward to hearing many great things about you in the future!

And I doubled checked the stanford waitlist FAQ’s. It seems that June 7th would have been the earliest we would have received a decision. However, I don’t think it would have been a decision we were looking for. If there were no spots, they could have sent out rejection letters out on that date; there wouldn’t be any need to take time. The fact that it’s taking time to hear back from them seems to indicate that there’s a least 1 open spot.

… basically, I’m just seconding what you mentioned earlier. :)

I look forward to hearing about the impact you make in the future as well. Again, what you have already accomplished and are currently involved in just sound incredible! I’m sure your future children will have many wonderful opportunities, and and with your example you can establish a dynasty of empowered movers and shakers! But if you ever have a boy, do be aware that the “terrible twos” stereotype is NOT a joke… lol (I dye my hair regularly, so thankfully I am presently unaware of how many premature grays have developed in the last year… ).

Well, folks, here we are. Tomorrow is the first of July. So today must be d-day. Or tomorrow, I guess… I will definitely post as soon as I hear something; hope you will, too! Good luck!!

Well, literally five minutes ago I received an email saying that the admitted class for 2011 is holding steady, so there are no open spaces for me at this time, but they hope I will remain on the extended waitlist to see if any spots open up after all, with the final decision to be handed down by July 11th. :frowning: Not looking good, but I will remain optimistic for another ten days… Good luck to everyone else, and please let us know what you find out! :)

dittoooo.

Erm… I know I said that we might both get in, but it’ll take nothing less than a miracle for two people to drop.

What an experience. Have a great 10 days CTC! :)

How many transfers did Stanford accept this year? Half a person?

lmao 10char.

@goingforanobel- thanks, I have enjoyed the last ten days. However, no word from Stan as of today… Odd, no? I wonder what that means…

I didn’t recieve word either.

However, today I got a message from someone who said that they had JUST dropped their spot. It was literally around 3pm EST. Crazy huh?

Best of luck! :)

Just got into Stanford :))
