@FUnderwood, it’s true that they are not obliged. But, the students next year who might be put on the waitlist can take it as a rejection since Stanford has devalued the waitlist.

Why the hell would they use their wait list when they already have almost 1700 kids and are overcrowded as it is?

My SUNetID was not found, so I am not getting in and wasn’t expecting to. I am not sure why I should care at this point. I guess I couldn’t get enough of the admissions angst. Lovely times… In four years, maybe I’ll get to experience it all over again.

Tbh brown didn’t use their waitlist for the past 4 years and no one complained
So…
It was a good journey so far but pumped for oxford this fall
Goodbye guys

@FUnderwood. I wish you the best at Oxford. Isn’t it funny how Alastair Herron <a href=“A-Level results: Student with 7 A*s heads to Stanford after being REJECTED by Oxford University | Daily Mail Online”>A-Level results: Student with 7 A*s heads to Stanford after being REJECTED by Oxford University | Daily Mail Online; (the most celebrated accomplished student last year from United Kingdom) did not get into Oxford (big uproar in U.K.)…but got into Stanford, Harvard, and Princeton…and is now happily thriving at Stanford…life is funny in this way!

Honestly, you cannot blame Stanford at this point. They only took 2138 students and if the yield would be same as last year there would have been 50 wait list spots. Their yield has grown by a lot in the last few years and if that happened to any college, their wait list would not have been used.

With that being said, Stanford still might take 10-12 kids off the waitlist since their general target is 1700. The only reasons that they might not take anyone can be over enrolment in 2012/ high transfer yield.

I don’t understand. Last 2 years they took none off the waitlist. This year the yield went up. Under what Math are people still hopefull of getting off the waitlist? I am hoping I dont understand something,

There are reasons still not to be 100% sure. Two years ago they had too large of a class - so large they were having problems with housing. Because of this, last year there was no way they were going to take people off of the wait list. They needed a small class of 2017 - They were still compensating for the huge class of 2016.

It now all depends if they are still compensating for the over-enrolled previous classes. With an enrolled class of around 1687 they could technically still take people of the waitlist. They have had larger enrolled classes in the past and still taken people of the wait list. It depends on what their goal and aims are.

Harvard’s yield has been higher and they took people of the wait list. The only thing we know for sure is they wont be taking hundreds of students of the wait list- but that was never going to happen anyway.

@rgosula, it’s the valence effect and optimism bias among myriad other cognitive biases.

Where hope grows, miracles blossom :D

^ PSUEDO-SCIENCE 101

It comes from looking at the waitlist from 2011. If we look at the yield rate in 2011 and add the number taken off the waitlist then subtract this year’s yielded students, we would get about 50 kids off of the waitlist. There exists a chance as long as they are not compensating for the over-enrolled year, I don’t really care tbh just trying to provide my thought.

Omg. I just got an e-mail saying that I got in. But I don’t want to believe it 100 percent because I would assume they would call students saying that they got in. Did anyone else receive any e-mails?

@MCT1996 Congratulations! Do you mind posting that email? thanks!

So. It has begun. GOOD LUCK FELLAS (AND GALS) !!!

Wouldn’t they have sent the acceptance email in mass?

So whoever didn’t get one when Mct did didn’t get in?

^likely. Although other ivies have been doing this completely on a rolling basis. There’s no point in them keep 900+ waiting to reject when they can do it now. I’d accept a rejection within a couple of hours, if not, it’s likely they’re still keeping it open @johnkim614

@johnkim614 They could come out in spurts.

“We regret to inform you that…”

I’m assuming there is no way to post pictures on here. I took a screenshot of the e-mail. They’re giving me only until May 27th to give them a response. :-O

Post it to a site like i m g u r . c o m and share the link.
