Hi! I am thinking of starting DECA at my high school. We have FBLA which I am part of so I am not sure if I should start DECA or not. It is something that I am passionate about starting though.
First things first, see if anybody else in your school is interested in joining DECA. If you can find enough people interested, then you could start asking teachers if they would be willing to be an advisor. Once you have all of that situated, then you could approach your principal or other administrators about the idea and show them you plan (who’s interested, who’s the advisor, when/where will yall meet, how often yall meet, etc.). You can work on the plan with whoever is your advisor.
One more question: FBLA and DECA are like rival clubs and the two advisors for FBLA are business teachers and they obviouly wouldn’t want to advise DECA so what teacher do you suggest to be out advisor? Like the speech teacher, hospitality teacher, etc. Thank you so much!
At my kids’ school there is one business teacher, and she advises both clubs. Some students participate in both, but I think most focus on one or the other. Maybe one of the two business teachers would be willing to take DECA while the other handles FBLA?
