Hey everyone, I just started filling out my FAFSA and applied for a PIN for me and my parent. I didn't receive any email though verifying the PINs. Am I supposed to wait until I receive the verification? Because aren't you supposed to sign the FAFSA with those elctronic PINs?

BTW I made my own PIN for mine and my parent.

It can take several days to get the confirmation email. If you have not got it by the time you complete FAFSA you can try and sign with them and see. We did have problems with our son’s the 1st time he filed FAFSA.

Yes. We did with my son last year. But for some reason it never got validated by the SS folks and we (I) had a few days of stress trying to sort it out (actually reduced me to tears after spending 4-5 hours on the phone with very well meaning, kind, but ultimately unable to help people at FAFSA and the SS offices). I don’t think it was anything to do with picking our own numbers but when the system finally allowed us to apply for a new PIN (after several days of you can’t sign it because you have no PIN on record but you can’t apply for a new PIN because you do have one already) we let them pick one to be safe.

Oops - misread Thumpers question. I don’t know - we did it through the PIN site. I have not heard that you can do it on completing FAFSA.
