Possible summer job.
Comic artist for newspaper - not in journalism; on own time.
Designed graphics for school webpage.

Awards - junk, mostly. A few arts and stuff, strangely.

Rec's are likely to be fair to good, essays likely to be good.

Really wanting to attend...

BTW, would like you to tell me if I've got a reasonable (non-delusional, as suze put it) list - I have them in order of preference.

1) JHU (ED) - reach.
2) UChicago (EA) - reach.
3) UVa (EA) - high match/slight reach.
4) UPenn - reach.
5) Duke - reach.
6) Carnegie Mellon - high match/slight reach.
7) UMD:CP - match.
8) William and Mary - low match/safety.
9) VTech - safety.
10) JMU - safety.

JHU ED - Match
Chicago EA - Match
UVA EA - Safety (In-State)
U Penn - Reasonable Chance
Duke - Reasonable Chance
Carnegie Mellon - Match
UMD - Safety
William & Mary - Safe Match
V Tech & JMU - Safety

You really have a low opinion of yourself...especially since JHU accepts over 50% ED and Chicago accepts 40% EA...

ED and EA for jhu and chicago and also cornell are extremely easy...also northwestern lol =D
edit: this is if you are not applying to bme
edit: however, your ec does seem a bit weak. I know jhu weighs ecs heavily...
edit: in terms of grades, you are exactly at the median of accepted students for jhu but i don;t know about your ec though gl! =D
edit: tip...jhu seems to go easier on people who have already done research in hs =D gl!

Not applying BME. No way.

As for EC's, I don't know what to do. I'll be volunteering with either the rescue squad or the local clinic soon, but aside from that, what can I do?

Research? How do I go about getting experience in research? Am I supposed to just waltz up a professor at JMU/EMU and ask, "Oh, hey, I'm a high school student, can I do research here?" What does that even entail?

...bump...

JHU ED 45%

You should be fine, though I'm not sure if you can apply both EA and ED at the same time.

by the way, what's your major?

nu is 44% and i think both cornell and chic are really near those numbers also...yea...ed/ea for those schools seem to be extremely easy to get in
edit: and yes she can apply ed/ea at the same time, as long as it is not scea

darkhope, I like your nickname for University of Chicago: "Chic":) No offence, it's excellent school.

Chic is hardly an offense... But if Chicago is "chic", I'm definitely not the type they're looking for! :p

Looking to major in biophysics, though with leanings to the premed track. May minor in psychology. Heck, if things go a certain way, may major in psychology.

BTW, the 45% is my chances, right? Better than I thought! :D

45% is for ed applicants this year; last year the rd admit rate was 27%

I think you hav a really good chance unless:

1) JHU suddenly has a sudden increase in applicants...and they do like every 2~3 years for some reason...

2) There are many Female Asians from Virginia that have the same Ec's as you. JHU places a lot more weight on EC's than other schools. Getting a summer job is a very nice way of spending your summer -- even it means working as a cashier and making minimum wage.

Seriously, I worked for the experience -- and now I actually have respect for those people behind the cash registers. (I'm not kidding you I had to read a 100 page manual on how to work a cash register) You gain a lot of interaction experience -- and perhaps colleges value this. Try to work at a smaller market/pharmacy -- because you get more things to do this way. I would hate to stand in a register all day. FYI, I worked at CVS pharmacy.

Thanks. I'll have to look into that. A pharmacy would be a whole lot better than most of the other suggestions for jobs I've been given.
