State or CC?

Since I'm thinking of getting my bachelor's from a UC, would it be better to get my GE from a CSU or CC? I'm still applying for freshman year at UC's, but I have a slim chance of getting into Berkeley. My english teacher told me it would be better to go to a CSU first instead of a CC because it would be easier to transfer to a UC. What do you guys think?

your teacher is incorrect. your best bet to get into a uc (berkeley) is to attend a cc and transfer into the uc after completing your ge requirements (IGETC certification, as the program is called, are uc lower division ge requirements that meet uc standards at community college). cc gets first priority when transfering to a uc, then uc transfers, then other transfers. get excellent grades at a cc and you will have an excellent chance of transfering into a top uc.

do you have factual evidence of this?

go visit the transfer forum and you'll get all the evidence you need. It seems that the vast majority of students on College Confidential that transfer into the UCs are CCC students. It's the same way in Texas. State schools make strong efforts to attract bright CC students.

But if I go to a CC, my college conselor says I'll be stuck there for more than 2 years. And no offense to CC students, but I've worked to hard to go to a CC. what do you guys think?

well, if you've worked hard enough already you would do best by applying directly to the UC out of high school.

Your college counselor is wrong. It is not very common at all for someone to be a at a CC for three years because it then becomes so hard to transfer out with that many credits. The majority of CC students go for 2 years or less.

Regardless of how hard you've worked now, ucchris is correct. If you go to a lesser UC or a CSU, you will not have first priority like CCC students. It's just the way Cali works.

sfboy:

as I posted on your other thread, transfer slots are primarily for community college transfers. To ensure you earn an AA in two years, check out the juco's honors program -- they have excellent transfer rates to Cal and UCLA.

oh yeah i forgot they have an honors program, i'll consider that but do you think it would be easy to get in with my grades? as i posted it up on the last thread

I'm currently a UC Berkerly student and I totally wished I went to a CSU first it is so much easier because all the classes are really packed and you end up staying there for a while. Even though my current GPA is a 4.56 it's still not enough to keep up with all the other majority. Please don't make the same mistake I did and make sure you get into a CC or an CSU first. You really need to relax because your just panicking over something that is going to happen no matter what! Good luck to ya! - Rusty

^ I disagree. Berkeley's Berkeley. Come on...

SFBOY you just need to keep your head in the game! Wake up and smell the San Francisco Rainbow!

"But if I go to a CC, my college conselor says I'll be stuck there for more than 2 years. And no offense to CC students, but I've worked to hard to go to a CC. what do you guys think?"

lol you didn't work hard enough. go to sfsu

dude first of all who are you to tell me that i didn't work enough, and how many times do i have to say that I want to get out of the bay area!

If you don't stay you'll never be number one and I think your grammer is hot

Santa Barbara City College has a good program, has honors program and good transfers to UCs..
