Wondering if anyone has seen information related to applicants who are deferred early decision at Duke and how they fare in the regular decision process. Do many stay the course and wait? Do they ED2 elsewhere? Is there a historical percentage that seeem to gain admission?
@CuriousEndeavor I assume, that you were deferred. My daughter was as well, and devastated. The odds are not good, historically Duke only admits 5-10% of deferred applicants during regular decision. I believe that was mentioned in the deferral letter. Definitely don’t wait, hopefully you have many other options. Plan on a Duke rejection, focus on your other options. If you get accepted, then add Duke back in the mix for consideration.
Extremely disapointed. Great SAT.(1 sitting). Top grades at extremely competitive private school. (Do not rank) All honors and AP courses with 5 on every subject test. Alumni status. Captain of a Varsity sport multiple years as well as all conference. Numerous service awards and leadership positions. Multiple extra curriculars for consecutive years with leadership positions, My interview went very well and I felt like she thought the school and I were a perfect fit.
@CuriousEndeavor The way I read your profile is that you are going to be successful wherever you go. Seriously.
I think I can speak to this, as I myself was deferred last year. They accepted about 50 or so out of 671 deferred applicants.
It seems more cruel to defer an ED applicant than to just reject them… Their chances of getting in after being deferred are WORSE than if they had applied RD (assuming they are not a recruited athlete).
Things may certainly have changed, but this was a quote from Duke’s then and current Dean of Admissions from a 2010 NY Times segment called “The Choice”:
Now, Mr. Guttentag:
The hard truth is that if you applied early decision and were deferred, for most of you, unfortunately, the process is essentially over.
can come please read my chance me for duke i got deferred as well and im scared its gonna be a no
