Does anyone know anything about this professor? She's teaching it Fall '11. People give her pretty decent reviews for Stats 2, but she's never taught Stats 21 before... should I wait until Ibser teaches it again (or whoever teaches it Spring '12)??

Thanks!

Ibser’s not exactly worth waiting for. Stats is a pretty boring subject for anyone to teach, you really just have to self learn from doing problems.

Like flutterfly said, you can easily keep up with the material just by reading the textbook/working on problems. The material isn’t hard at all and the main issue people seem to have with the class is the curve/competition.

Stat 21 is also offered in the Summer as an online course (but the final is on campus) so that’s always an option. See http://www.stat.berkeley.edu/~stark/Teach/S21/Su10/ for more details.

I see… Yeah, I was considering taking it during the summer but I’ll also be doing an internship so I’m not sure how much time I have. (I also don’t know if I want to work that hard over the summer haha)

But it seems like Stoyanov probably won’t have a curve as bad as Ibser’s… and she does have some decent reviews on ninjacourses, I guess I should just take it with her.

Thanks guys

Shob is pretty fair. Had her for Stats 2. Her first mid was too easy so she made the final harder, but it was still doable (although it was probably even harder than normal since half the class decided to ditch by the end of the semester lol)

Ibser wasn’t notably easy or anything either. Stats is really gonna be all self-taught from the textbook so just take it when you feel confident about it.

as stated, you can and probably should teach yourself the material and practice on your own to gain a mastery of the material if you’re not already familiar with it.

but i’ll vouch for ibser here, he’s a really good guy and easy to talk to. lectures can get boring, but stat is boring from the get-go.

in your scenario, i probably would just take it with stoyanov cuz it’s sooner, but i mean ibser’s definitely a cool prof and i’m going to be taking 134 with him in the future whenever he gets to teach it again during the regular school year.
