Stats and decisions

Hi, I have been lurking here for a while but first time poster. Thank you all for all the info and advises, they have been very helpful to me.
My 8th grader D is applying for Exeter and Andover this year for 9th grade. As Mar 10 is approaching, I am getting nervous. I have been looking through try to find out the stats for kids who were accepted and those who were rejected. There are infos of states, and info of outcomes, but typically they are not together. I am wondering if it will be a good idea to have a thread where we can put stats and outcome together, this way it is easier for perspective parents/students to find where they are. What do you think?
Thanks in advance.

Did she apply to other schools? Those two schools have a very competitive appliance

I think interview plays a great role in Andover’s admissions, but well that’s just my opinion

Ps. Your D Will be notified on M9 not M10  exeter usually sends the desicion email to the parents and Andover sends the letter/package or you can check by MyAndover

I think that you should definitely apply to both schools! However, cast a wider net :)

There’s already a sticky thread on this on the main Prep School Admissions board:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/1300729-2012-clean-official-boarding-decisions-applicant-stats-ecs.html

the multitude of threads available on CC never fail to amaze me :)

@Turks & AmbiD, These are the only schools she applied. The BS thing is new to our family, nobody ever went from both sides of her parents. I heard Exeter from my friend who sent her children there, so I thought we will try with my D too. Intially was just Exeter, and then I thought since we are trying, why not try other school as well. I did minimal research, and intend to apply Andover, Lawrencevill because these 3 seems to have biggest endowment found for FA(somehow I missed St. Andrew, oh, well… :)), then she did not finish the application for lawrenceville, we were discoraged by the high tuition there(we think maybe we are qualified for FA, maybe not).

GMTplus7, thanks for the link, that IS what I was looking for! Very helpful!

If you’re confident in her applications, then you won’t have a problem and you’re likely to get in. However, with these schools you should always prepare for the worst

@exeterhopefulmom, our situation is identical to yours. DC only applied Exeter and Andover. DC is the one who really wants BS, and until today dad is not convinced BS is the best value considering the overall cost. Since DC has great option locally either at our public school, or at the nationally ranked magnet program, we figured we shoot for the 2 DC really wants to go.

We fully understand the competitiveness of these 2 schools and will take whatever the results are. DC does have stellar stats that we are very pround of so even if we don’t get the good news, we have done everything we can.

Best of luck to your D.

@Bearsgarden, we are in the same boat then. I am not fully convinced BS is the way for her too, the high school at home is not bad. If she is accepted by any one, I will lay out all the pros and cons in front of her, and let her make the decision.

thats a great idea

Looking at the Stats of those admitted to the top tier schools I cannot help but acknoledge, that grades and scores do not matter that much, if you don’t have “something else” to offer. Be a nationally ranked athlete, be a winner of math competitions, a wiz at robotics, be a dance or music prodigy. It is amazing how many talented and very clever kids are competing for a spot at these prep schools!
