@rlhdoyle - first, to answer your question above - no my S is not going to Rowan. Second - oh my god - this is awful! I have never actually heard of a school making a mistake like this. Did they say WHEN they would review her file? One of my other kids applied to Binghamton and by accident applied to the wrong school. He wrote admissions a note saying that he made a mistake and they wrote back telling him that they would review his application again for the new school. The email said it would take some time and could take up to a couple of months. He heard back two days later. They can, if they chose, review her application immediately. They should do this as this is a big error from their admissions office.
Oooops, I meant to write part of this post on another thread. So sorry, multi - tasking. Anyway, they should review her file immediately. I would write to the head of admissions and reiterate what happened. good luck
They said we should know by mid next week. But I am calling Friday to make sure this is moving through the channels. And I will write a letter tomorrow.
Thanks for that suggestion!!
@rlhdoyle, this may actually work in your favor. If she is on the border for example in terms of merit aid, they may give her the higher amount, etc.I know she is probably upset, I would be too, but I guess mistakes happen. It is an awfully big one though.
A huge one!! So disgusted!!! If I hadn’t called, we never would have known…
@rlhdoyle as a parent with two at Rowan, both in the Honors program, I can tell you the place is fantastic. I am sorry the admissions stuff has been such a hassle, but honestly I could not be happier with the education my two are getting. The cost is a bargain, both got excellent merit aid. The campus is bustling and full of life, the class sizes are small and taught be actual professors, who are engaged and available. UD as I recall is a top party school, huge class sizes and campus. Maybe that is a fit, I can’t say for your child, but for mine Rowan was perfect. Best of luck! Any questions let me know.
Thank you for your update. We received the corrected admissions form this past weekend and she was accepted ito the biomedical engineering program. Rowan is still her first choice and the campus fits her. We have recovered from our initial panic and anger. :). She is finishing up her honors application and will get it off this weekend. I think we will send off the deposit too. Rowan is a better fit for her than UD. We are Delaware residents so hopefully Rowan will give her some merit money to bring the tuition cost down close to what UD would be.
Have all accepted students received their financial letters?
My son received his acceptance letter on Feb 18th and I am (patiently, not so much, lol) waiting to hear about $$
Just curious about when i should be expecting it.
Thanks!
@oceanmuzik D’s acceptance letter dated January 12, scholarship letter dated January 23. I called Rowan and was told by financial aid we would receive full aid letter by the end of March.
end of March?! ugh thanks so much @mommabear67 !
Interesting how its so different for everyone. DS’s acceptance & merit letter were in same envelope. Both dated 1/26.
does anyone know exactly what the “Rowan scholars program scholarship” is? Any link i click on their website leads me to “Page Not Found”
thanks! so strange, that exact page kept telling me NOT FOUND yesterday
@oceanmuzik seems like there is something up with the site… I was getting the same error message for a few of the other links also…
Weird thing - This is my third year watching that site. This happened at the same time the last two years. I used to have the chart copied somewhere because of it - there was an actual chart showing SAT / GPA = this much merit aid. It isn’t your imagination ;0
@NJRoadie i remember seeing someone talk about that chart, would you happen to have a copy that you can post? I looked all over online and an unable to locate it
I am sorry @oceanmuzik but I could not locate it. It was on some paper form.
I can tell you my daughter had a 1260 and was originally given something like $6,000 a year merit, which was later increased to $11,500.
@oceanmuzik & @NJRoadie I called last fall sometime& asked about the scholarship chart. They said they are not posing one this year because of the new SAT scores.
I also suspect it gives them more discretion so that they can award based on more than just sat score/gpa.
The chart you refer to was for admissions for Fall 2016 according to the Admissions Office. My son and daughter I attended Open House last April and the chart was part of the paperwork they gave out. He received $6,000.00 merit for Fall 2017 admittance in Engineering. Has applied for Honors acceptance but his 1360 SAT and 4.0 UW GPA should have reflected an award of $9,000 - 16,000. Possibly the money is not available this year. He received almost top awards from RIT and Manhattan College and equal awards from Udel, and TCNJ. Penn St a touch less. He really liked Rowan and his sister will be applying there for Fall 2018 admission in Engineering also. We will see how this turns out.
