@surveysays We visited in April also. I went through all of my paperwork and brochures from that day, but do not have that chart. Can you tell me the range for SAT 1280 (new) and 4.0 GPA?
@oceanmuzik. Sat score range of 1250-1299 shows scholarship amount of $4,700 to $7,400. I questioned Admissions on this as I was thinking of appealing and the woman said that these figures reflect Fall 2016 incoming students. She advised me to direct all correspondence to the Director. Waiting to hear about Honors acceptance and offers from other school also.
Does anyone know what is the most merit awarded in state at Rowan?
Thanks.
@DemonDad the most I know if was 20K, but that was for amazing stats, ECs etc. The COA is 28K, so it is a well priced school to begin with. Based on numbers I’m hearing from people this year, it seems they ave giving out less money, which leads me to believe they have a larger number of higher stats kids attracted already, so they can give less and still hit the sign on numbers they want.
@NJRoadie Thanks for your response. My son was awarded $15k for next year. (Close to 1500 SAT). I wanted to see if that was in line with others. I think in past years he would have gotten even more.
The website says ‘as much as $24,000’ so I guess that’s the max which isn’t too shabby since that’s pretty close to cost-of-attendance with dorm.
I have found that state schools, including Rowan, often don’t make financial promises because of state budgets not being approved yet. You’re sort of flying blind. It’s not like retail, unfortunately.
The only relatively concrete promises are to the 4.0 1400+ SAT kids who get the top amount. The rest fight for the scraps, and there are a variety of factors.
My DD finally heard from Rowan. Accepted into her third choice major (translational biomedical science) after being accepted into Rutgers engineering and UD’s ChemE program. Also invited to the Pre Engineering @ Rowan program through Gloucester County College.
The entire admissions packet was immediately placed into the recycling pile.
FYI, UD’s ChemE program is one of the top in the nation. Congratulations to your D!
@mtown27, it’s good to recycle!
@crazymamaB Interestingly enough, DD is much more likely to choose Rutgers or UMBC than UD. Rutgers is in state and she’s always liked the school and wanted to go there. She is a finalist in UMBC’s Center for Women in Technology program and she likes the vibe of the campus. Most significantly, both RU and UMBC offer really nice living learning communities for female engineers that she likes. UD is the most expensive school for us, and lacks these kinds of communities.
@mtown27 The lack of engineering learning communities at UD was a factor in my S choosing a different school also. Best of luck to your D wherever she decides to attend. She has great options!
nothing in the mail. anyone receive anything yet? financial, honors?
nothing in the mail here either
Rowan has been quite chatty this week with DD. Offered her a $3500 / year scholly. Encouraged her to apply to the Honors concentration. Sent her an invite to a meet and greet. It would actually have had some meaning to her had they accepted her into their Engineering program.
@mommabear67 did your dd apply to rpi also?
Ds was accepted to Rutgers but campus turned out too large and FA turned out too low for us. njit was great, distance and pricewise. Still waiting on rowan and hoping for full ride but wishing above everything else that we can somehow afford rpi. rpi is perfect for his rigor-level, distance (2 hr drive from NJ), campus size and vibe, major.
@mtown27 My new daughter-in-law (bride of my son, a Rowan '13 civil engineering grad) is set to graduate from UMBC with a biochem degree this spring. She can’t speak higher of her education.
Huge difference from Rutgers. Much smaller, more compact, more individual. Strikes me as more of a commuter school with some residences. She can realistically complete her degree in four years, which is not a sure thing at Rutgers.
I’m not sure if you’ve been there. Easy to find, just off the southern part of the 695 beltway. I’d say it’s a great compare/contrast with Rutgers.
Good luck!
@reformedman no, not rpi, but RIT and Syracuse. D was also accepted to Rutgers, but also low fa, and CS program isn’t ABET accredited.and its WAY too HUGE! Hoping Rowan fa letter comes this week & that it is better than Rutgers
@mommabear67 Same boat.
After thinking a lot about it with the wife, we sat down with DS to talk about rpi, rit and case; that although they were generous offers, if they don’t respond to our financial review requests with some good news, nope we won’t accept.
I hated to think about saying no to RPI,but it’s got to be done.
I wish I knew how to judge between NJIT and Rowan.
They both cost nearly the same and both offer CompEng.
If they both offer the exact same FinAid, which should we accept? I wish I had some answers.
@mtown27 did you inquire with admissions to ask about their decision. My D was not initially admitted into the engineering program and we called to inquire. They had the wrong SAT scores. Rowan corrected the error and offered her admission and different scholarship package…
